Pretty sure the Sprites are bigger than the actual ships so the sprites can touch without an actual collision.

Yes, the ships displayed size are somewhat enlarged to make them easier to see and interact with.

Thank you for the confirmation sir. I do appreciate the time you and the rest of the team spend on the forum. konstantinua00, it's the same reason I believe why you will sometimes see a ship sprite run over a mine without actually hitting it.

bcoopatual, while I was partially interested of "no collision", most of my amazement was from the fact that those 2 ships were staying side to side for more than an hour, all while being AI controled...

Don't have screens unfortunately but from a while back I had a night foggy fleet battle as the CSA against the USA off the coast of Florida and spent 90% of the thing running with my tail between my legs cause my capital fleet was a grand 3 Bs that were a decade out of date, two BBs that werent much better, and my 1 up to date BB that I was intent on guarding like it was my daughter at highschool prom and the US fleet was the football team because I sank half my naval budget into the thing and I wasn't going to lose it on its first show.
Anyways back on topic. The US fleet chased me all through the night. Taking shots at my back but not getting close enough to maul me. Me desperately running in the hopes of getting into port. Then dawn hits and the fog clears up at the same time. Revealing that I, without my knowledge. Had managed to get the US fleet within 1500 meters of Fort Keyes. A.k.a. 'the island of more guns then sand' since I use a mod from a while back to make land forts stronger and cheaper. I can only imagine the US captain went "B4ing me my brown pants" as literally 7 in game minutes latter fort Keyes takes out 3 American BBs, cripples 4 more and sinks dozens of smaller ships.
Then when the US fleet ran home. All four of its crippled BBs were sunk by submarines within 25 minutes of eachother. Long after I disengaged.
Long story short. Ended up sinking 7 American BBs without my navy itself making a single hit and doing nothing but running like a bunch of panzies.

As USA, my battle fleet ran smack into the british battle-fleet at night in a storm, and had it out with them at point blank range. All of my BBs and BC had 16" guns. Turret explosions and torpedoes. "Nuff said

I use that same mod and using the tactics you did, my shore batteries sank 2 enemy CAs and sent a 3rd one running for home. Now I look forward to late-game enemy coastal raids, its fun to see an enemy fleet impale itself on your coastal defenses. Just to add my $0.02, I highly recommend that mod, it really makes coastal batteries worth building (outside of any invasion prevention) as it gives them much better fire control (they get the most advanced type, but heads up, they'll still be listed as having out of date CR or CF, but once in battle it lists the right type).

Was that the only hit? Talk about a magic bullet. I try very hard to not go overweight. And ironically it's the smallest ships (outside of small MS's) that you usually run into the problem because DD's have a different size limit system compared to other ships.

Here's a moment I had a couple of days ago - Revenge was taking on a very small amount of water, but the crew weren't able to stop it. Will she get back........ (note time elapsed at bottom).

I can't remember where I saw it off the top of my head but I thought I read somewhere that the scenario ran for an additional two hours worth of turns behind the scenes after the time's up message to simulate DC efforts and and such during the return to port. That's why you get get the occasional "ship xxx has sunk" message when you close out the scenario to go back to the main screen.
If that's the case you would have lost her anyway but it still sucks to get that close. Maybe if they had thrown the Captain's furniture overboard to lighten the load.

Weird stuff starts to happen when you set the game to 1% tech rate

This actually makes sense in terms of some other results I've had (I have had more than a few badly flooded ships nursed to the end of scenarios as well, but there's usually at least a little margin for error). Makes for an interesting and tense run to the end of the scenario at least . Noname117 - that sounds like an interesting game! What are the battles like, lots of relatively quick, well armoured ships taking a very long time to sink each other? .
