I've started this thread about the five battles between surface forces and the two between carriers. We can include Santa Cruz if you wish.

Are there particular facets about the battles and logistics of the early Solomons campaign that you are looking to discuss? There are a lot of different things that can be touched on beyond the battles themselves in detail. Command decisions, naval doctrine, and how various actions and results cascaded into other things.
And you also get what can be considered the greatest single submarine torpedo salvo of all time.

seems like a good place to implace forts with Naval guns to secure waters, with mines, torps, torpedo boats, aircraft and AAA. or an enviroment very hostile to surface units

seems like a good place to implace forts with Naval guns to secure waters, with mines, torps, torpedo boats, aircraft and AAA. or an enviroment very hostile to surface units The Japanese did hollow out caves and emplaced guns which fired down on Henderson and troops. Finally the Marines got tired of loosing sleep, so they went up and destroyed the positions. As to the idea of forts, it wasn't really that necessary since the island's main purpose was to house Marine, Naval and Army air groups. There was no real harbor except for Tulagi which wasn't much. The Allies never had any thoughts of making it a main base. The Japanese had not done an adequate job of assessing where we might strike first. They had WPO and assumed it would be the Central Pacific. They were actually correct except that when they occupied Guadalcanal, that galvanized the US Navy because we could not let them put bombers and fighters on that island and let them intercept movements to New Caledonia, and the other islands. They did not extend their strategic thinking beyond what they would do, they did not consider our reactions.
