It seem quite interesting. There are couple of things I do not expect but there are in. All things note was mainly about ship design however as we can see there are doctrines, eg. in carrier aviation where different environment has effect on different design and doctrines. USA and Japan went for large aircraft formations quickly launched mainly due to deck parks and open hangars which is easily feasible in Pacific conditions however UK went with closed hangar, later protected by armored box, lighter deck parks (they use before USA entering war however very rarely as RN does not have enough aircrafts and pilots) as they need to operate with rough sea conditions and protection over number of aircraft. Second doctrine difference was that UK specialized in night strikes even before WW2, USA and Japan did not but USA was able to match UK at late war in night attacks. Will there be possible to go differently in doctrines not only by ship design which is the answer to doctrine of navy? Will be there same options as RTW about technologies could proved less effective (eg. aircraft could be not so decisive as was in reality?)

I'm curious as to how the armor on older ships will be handled with this change - will they benefit from advances in armor technology? If not, how will the difference in effective armor protection between older ships and newer ships with the same armor thickness be communicated to the player? Are ships laid down after the invention of radar assumed to be built with radar installed? Does new construction consume some of the production of radar sets, or is this only for extant ships which lack (modern) radar sets?

It would be nice to see how Rule the Waves 2 groups ships for combat. Seconded. Surprised to see it's not in the list..

Also hope that the minefields aren't so large that bombardment missions are imppossible. (Pet peeve) Is it a secret or can you give an idea of number of nations available for RTW2?

I'm intrigued by the "fewer Kaisers, more Fuhrers" bit, but it sounds like it's fairly closely tied to the real-life timeline rather than in-game events. Any chance levels of popular revanchism based on the outcome of in-game wars could be tracked and influence the occurrence of extreme governments? For example, if Germany has been dominant on the world stage since the turn of the century, then the Kaiser's position should be fairly secure even as late as 1940, and it doesn't really make sense for there to be a Fuhrer. If Britain has suffered two humiliating defeats against the same enemy before 1910, then 1920 might even be a bit late to see something like "Catering to popular anger over the incompetence of government ministers, the King declares martial law and dissolves parliament! The prime minister had been executed! Popular opinion demands a war of revenge against the Germans!". Fascist coups are not inevitable, they are much more likely if a nation has suffered a humiliating defeat. Liberal democracies are much less susceptible to going fascist, but can do so under the circumstances you describe.

[Edit - What's the "decolonization" that Mr. Miller referred to in the second entry?] Democracies will gradually grant independence to colonies very late in the game.

So, RTW 1 tends to end with world domination, but RTW 2 tends to end with agreements and decolonization... Yeah, thats pretty realistic if you ask me. Nice to see that. I agree with that we need to be able to choose certain ships for certain fleets (to avoid something like 22kts BB escorting 34kts CV, or 21kts CL leading 36kts DDs). I also agree with the need of being able to make oil stockpiles (for example in the same ways like forts, or in the same way like "improving bases"), so when you expect the war to start (for whatever reason), you will build some of these to avoid BBs starving out of oil. Other than that, when I look at the list of new features of RTW 2, I think of it like "RADAR? Great, DP guns? Perfect, Fuel shortages? Yes, thats realistic, Trade protection? Perfect as well, All forward needs research? Dont know why, but ok... Inclined belt? Dunno if I´ll use that, but I´ll give it a try at least once, Selectable invasion? That went better than expected, AA guns? I probably need to try that first to understand it, Missile technology? I would really want to know what does it mean. One minor thing at the end. Why am I forbidden to use bow and aft centreline guns on my raiders? Will this feature stay in RTW2?

So we get to design our own planes.
This is where the fun begins
Also some of the planes are not carrier or boat based, will there be land based aviation that comes into the battle or something like that

[Edit - What's the "decolonization" that Mr. Miller referred to in the second entry?] Democracies will gradually grant independence to colonies very late in the game. The impression I get is that it's basically like the near-inevitable revolution in Ireland around 1920 in RTW1, but on a larger scale. Is decolonization more likely if colonies in the same region have been successfully invaded by a regional power? I understand that this was a large factor in the decolonization of SE Asia after WWII: once they had seen the Europeans knocked around by the Japanese in WWII, the locals no longer saw the Europeans as invulnerable overlords that would inevitably crush all resistance (that, and European economies were exhausted by the war).

36 kts feels a little bit slow as the maximum speed for destroyers. I think just about all the major naval powers built at least a few classes faster than that. Are we going to see destroyers or small light cruisers be allowed to go faster than that- i.e. 36 kts is simply the maximum speed that is achievable by an arbitrary ship design, and faster than that requires low tonnage?

All forward needs research? Dont know why, but ok... Well, you can still build all-forward, but it won't give the short citadel bonus. I get why they're doing it: the technology to build dreadnoughts existed in 1900, and probably even in the late 1890s, so if you just allow players to build whatever was possible to build IRL at the time, they'll build legacy fleets full of dreadnoughts, so you have to make certain things that are more doctrinal into research items.

So you mean that so called "research" contains more likely "doctrinaire" aspect? Well, my knowledge in 19/20 century tech is not bad, but not so deep to know that. For example I thought that in 1900 it would not be possible to place 12in double turret to the ship wing possition because of tech... So its more like "we havent thought about that earlier" than "we couldnt research it earlier"? Well, that would explain the need to research all-forward first.

Yeah, 36kts is really one of the slower DDs... There were some that could beat 40kts even fully loaded. Even Italian so called "CL" (in fact and in my opinion it was just a big DD) could go faster than 40

first - wooooo! i noticed the dock size goes up in 500t increments now - interesting as far as bcoopactual's idea of first invasion maybe some countries like Japan can pre-plan an invasion target for free before war so that it has a chance of executing on the first turn of the war. it could replace the surprise attack perhaps
