So finally after my third try I have finally succeeded and updated my Gun Range and Penetration tables. They now include tables for every two years (1900, 1902, etc) up to 1926 since that is roughly equivalent to when the nominal years for the Armor Piercing techs are due. I originally wanted to just fill in the missing years in my original tables but halfway through I found out by accident that the calendar year in game has an effect on max range and since I never changed the game file date from January 1900 in my original tables most of those ranges were short. So I started from scratch. Here is the setup for each page. I modified the date in the game file to January of the appropriate year. I then modified the tech levels so that all techs up to and including that year were marked as researched. (i.e. for the 1906 page all techs that have a date of 1906 or earlier were marked as complete.) The tech level for Fire Control and AP shells is listed at the top of the page. I think they are the only two techs that affect these numbers but I kept all of the research areas up to date just in case. For years where Improved Elevation is researched the numbers include IE being checked off on the ship design and IE being applicable is noted on the top of the page. As a reminder, you will probably see somewhat different numbers in game. These pages represent a best case scenario for tech advancement which means you haven't skipped any techs and you are caught up to the techs as far as the year they are nominally supposed to be completed which is very difficult to do since sometimes you have two or three techs with the same year. So that means the numbers you see on the page are likely to be slightly better than what you see in-game but the numbers are representative so if you are trying to compare guns to see if staying with a smaller caliber +1 gun makes sense instead of moving up to the next caliber quality 0 or -1 guns you can still do that with these even though your actual in-game numbers may look slightly different. I changed the format slightly from the previous tables, I split the horizontal and vertical penetration numbers into different columns instead of using a slash so hopefully that makes it easier for ddg or anybody who wants to copy this data into a different format. These are not my numbers or my property in any way, this data belongs to the fine folks at NWS who created the game so I have no problem with people copying or using these tables as they see fit as long as they don't violate the user agreement with NWS. Below should be a sharable link to my Google drive for the Excel file. Enjoy and hopefully you find them useful. [2nd Edit - New Link, File edited for typos - drive.google.com/file/d/1wOoW4te1CXqKQXaGIGSd_sP_IrFNR_W3/view?usp=sharing]Last thing, the data on the 1924 and 1926 pages being identical is not a mistake, updating the techs to include the last 1926 techs for both Fire Control and AP research areas did not change the range or armor penetration numbers at all. [Edit - Here is a picture of a partial page for those who aren't familiar with the original set I put together.]

Sorry to actually appear as tech confused as I am, but when I click the link on my Samsung Note5 I get a box saying "Allow Hancom Office S viewer to make and manage phone calls?". Haven't got access to my PC or laptop so I don't know if the same/similar message will pop up there. Question is: what's Hancom and why does it want to make phone calls? Opening the link several times (I clicked deny) and was able to view two layouts of the file. One was evidently the preferred version (dark Excel with date tabs, etc.) but every other time I got a different layout/format that was far more awkward. So, Bcoop, because I'm on a smartphone do I need Hancom to view it? Sorry to be bothersome.

Hmmm, I don't have a lot of experience with smart phones so I don't know. It's a plain Microsoft Office Excel file. It could be that your Note's Office viewer is a third party app by that name. I hate giving those apps permissions to do things on my phone so I don't want to say yeah or nay. I can tell you that I didn't take any consideration for viewing it on a smartphone or tablet although it seems to work on my old LG Volt phone without any notifications or problems. I would recommend waiting until you got back to your PC (assuming that's what you play the game on) because the file will probably look best on that. It looks like the window you see when you click the gun data button on the design screen except all three gun qualities values are side by side and the various calibers are stacked on top of each other. I'm not home or I would post a screen shot. Sorry I can't be more help.

I've just tried it on my desktop, it runs fine. I just accessed it with my LG Smartphone and had no issues. Sorry, Y'all have a problem.

Thanks to both of you. Appreciate the feedback. I'll see how the laptop does. I've seen Bcoop's work before so I'm sure it'll be very useful when I get it open.

Nice work, as usual. It looks, ironically enough, like you have a typo in your preview image: I rather doubt 1918-level 9" +1s penetrate 105 inches at 8000 yards. I will likely work on adding the new information into my compilation in the coming weeks.

I'll fix that and repost the link. [Edit - New link added to original post]

Thanks again for the work you've put into the data file.

So, Bcoop, because I'm on a smartphone do I need Hancom to view it? Sorry to be bothersome. It's likely whatever bloatware package your phone manufacturer has installed for viewing MS Office files. It's probably as safe as any other crapware that comes preloaded, which is to say not actively malicious ('cause your manufacturer doesn't want to get sued and will vet things at least that much), but quite possibly inclined to do shady-but-legal things with your privacy. Being that it came with the phone, and that, unlike computers, phones pretty much never give you full admin rights out-of-the-box, it's probably not removable, but you don't have to use it to view Office files. Microsoft now has Office for Android (although I'm fairly certain that it's a paid app, just like the desktop version), and LibreOffice is a well-trusted open source office suite that has a viewer available for Android. As a techie, I'm inclined to recommend that you use LibreOffice and not touch manufacturer bloatware on general principles, but at the same time, Hancom Office is probably not a huge threat to you, personally and immediately. Bloatware tends to advance worrying trends in tech that threaten damage to society as a whole in the long term, but doesn't tend to be an immediate direct threat to any particular user, or else manufacturers would get sued. The biggest threat bloatware poses to an individual user is the cultivation of bad habits, such as not fully understanding what programs are part of the OS and what aren't.

First: To bcoopactual - it seems I've hijacked your thread and you did far too much work on your Gun Data for that to have happened. Sorry for that.
Second: Rimbecano - thanks for the insight. Your comment about bloatware is scary-accurate. Seems like the approach is if everybody is affected then nobody is affected. Who's gonna notice? [By the way, did (could) Microsoft ever say why you have to buy their Office Suite as a seperate purchase instead of preloaded like it used to be?]

Haha, don't worry about it, every thread in this forum gets hijacked to one extent or another (usually for a history lesson) but we rarely need moderator action to get back on track. When somebody has a relevant question or if they spotted something I screwed up they will speak up so don't sweat it.

Love this chart. This is going to help me significantly with planning ship designs and tech strategies.
I'm curious however, is there any data for under 5000 yards? I have had several engagements where my gun's AP was just below an enemies armor thickness. *For example, 1.9" penetration @ 5000 Yd vs enemies 2" belt thickness.* In that desperate scenario, if I wasn't forced to flee, I usually tried to engage the enemy as close as possible within 5000 yards hoping that possibly the penetration would improve slightly at closer range.
Does anyone know if this is reflected in the game mechanics or not?
EDIT:
Also from looking at this chart, is it just me or are 10" guns almost worthless? It seems the 9" gun has comparable range and penetration to the 10" at all quality levels and era. It seems like the best strategy would be to forgo 10" guns entirely and just use more lighter 9" guns.

In one of my last battles battleship with 9 inches of belt armor was able to deflect shots from 13" and 14" guns at range around 4000 in 1919.

Hey largo4545 , welcome to the forum. Like dorn stated these are not absolute numbers. If I recall from what the Fredrik stated these numbers are actually more of a best case scenario with the shell hitting the armor perpendicular for maximum penetration. Since the game takes that into account (as well as numerous other behind-the-scenes factors) you will usually see penetration numbers a little less then the numbers given in game. Keep in mind too though that the armor values in game are also the best case thickness for that part of the ship at least in the case of belt and deck armor and it's possible that the shell will strike a part of the belt that is thinner. Also, the 5K, 8K, 12K, etc out to 25k ranges are just arbitrary points selected by the developers for consistency to give examples and actual penetrations are more like a continuous curve based on range so inside of 5K yards, belt penetration will continue to go up as range decreases until the guns theoretical maximum for the muzzle velocity at the exit of the barrel. Same in the opposite direction with continuously decreasing penetration values outside of 25K yards for guns with ranges that far. Deck penetration also continues to increase outside of the ranges posted up to the guns maximum range.
