Now that RtW2 kicked the door in, I could "officially" start the "build your bloody ships"-campaign, however as the game still has a few smaller kinks to work out and maybe some features that might arrive in the near future, it's probably prudent to wait a month or so with that, in case the save files prove not to be compatible. That, of course, does not necessarily mean that in the meantime I can't do anything.
- For starters, no ideas came in for the sub, which means she'll get the "standard late" grey-and-white scheme. This is most likely because just about everyone flocks around the RtW2 boards right now. I do not want to "migrate" however as long as I have kind of nothing to present in terms of actual gameplay, and this comes in fairly handy, because...
- ...this means that if you are reading this, you are probably the minority. Meaning, you have a good chance that I'll
Attempt to model your RtW2 ship! (keyword: attempt )
The deal is simple: If you have a ship design that is particularly close to your heart and would like a simple, silly and not-horribly-accurate 3D model of it (again, both my time and expertise has it's limits) but you couldn't manage on your own, I'll try to deliver it for you without a strict deadline (but before my own campaign starts) if I deem it doable. By "model" I mean a digital model, so an .stl file, for now I'd rather not send actual little pieces of plastic to the other side of the globe, but who knows what the future holds.
So, post your design until May 27, and - if you are the only one, it's done deal! - if more people live with the opportunity, I guess I'll post some kind of a poll and give it some days, so the popular choice wins I thought this is a fun way to both engage with the community and to exercise for my own campaign at the same time. Of course, should you "win", do now expect miracles, I am not a modeler by trade. Or a naval architect. ...but it's free! (okay, you owe me beer; two, if you are from Belgium)

Good Sir I am keen to accept your proposal, as I feel the Admiral Wir (from nws-online.proboards.com/thread/1090/transcription-restoration-plc-navy ) would be neat to have immortalized. (& sorry I went to war with Austria "3" times in that AAR... >.> ) It appears on page 7, and alas at work I do not have the tools to clip in a screen cap of its data card. Do you need the game design file?

Ooh, an interesting one! ^^ I do believe I that I have a good enough base with Admiral Wir's generated/built side view plus the data on the card, yes, probably no need for the design file, thank you! Unless I forgot something important that the data card does not present.

I can't think of anything, though if someone else wants to avail themselves of your 3D design skills please consider their proposal instead!

Alright, but garrisonchisholm , I hope you did not reasonably expect me to NOT work on one of my first and most active topic member's ship who respected me with his attention, regardless of my original post? And because I had time to kill, allow me to...
Truth be told, I wanted to work on her a bit more, but my humble laptop I have with me right now wasn't buying into the whole "I want more triangles"-part. Still, I experimented successfully with some "new" techniques (swept protrusions across the cross sections instead of hacking away at a brick), thus the hull form is now more natural and I was able to do blast bags for example. Still, the software also reached somewhat it's limits, so the hull form is still not quite as good as I'd wish, but it will do I guess.
Ultimately I wanted to stay as close to the "original ship" as I reasonably can, after all, that's the whole point.
Win10 should have an in-built viewer, but in case the computer can't handle .stl, an online viewer should do the trick, no need to download a software. While I made the ship with the """realistic""" approach in mind, in case you want to print it out, do tell me and I'll "coarse" the model up a bit!

EDIT; "OH MY FLIPPIN GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (...Let me just point out how mature and professional this sounds for the father of two 20 year-olds. *thumbs up*)

Bah, BNA works for quasi-free, which is an extremely sound financial model if one can believe the church.

Beautiful. Nothing more is need to say.
You can find a lot of inspiration in best ships thread. I remember one which I like but choose whatever you like.

That is simply gorgeous. Incredible work.
"it will do I guess," he says as he delivers some of the prettiest fictional ship models I've seen.

It probably stems from wishing always just for a bit better. In any way, I am always happy to read your feedback! I am planning on taking a look at that girl from the Netherlands as well, but for now I went for a bit smaller project: By the gods, I am trash incarnate when it comes to photoshopping, but it was still fun! I realized that RtW2's legacy fleet roll tends to produce roughly the same ships, almost certainly the same 400-ton destroyer (at least visually and layout-wise), so I went with it. Not as flashy as the Mighty Capital Ships, but after four pages of the topic finally there is a ship - based mainly on the historical Huszár-class - that is almost certainly will be a part of my actual campaign. You can check her data sheet here:

Too cool. I'll follow this thread til the cows come home.
Edit; yes, I liked my own comment.

Too cool. I'll follow this thread til the cows come home. Well, in that case...! It's about 2am here now, so I should really sleep by now, but that would indicate decent human behaviour, and who am I to lie to myself about me? Right, so instead I started thinking about what else could I do with these models. First, I needed a brave volunteer, so let me present IJN Namikaze:
Namikaze had a rough night:
However, her sacrifice was not in vain, because this gave me the casus belli to experiment with damage reports:
Okay, I... really did not need to brutalize one of my destroyers to come up with some random damages to show, especially that due to my tiredness I did not give a lot of attention to the accuracy of the hits' nature and exact location*, but still! Proof of concept, and all!
My bad, Namikaze!
*Edit: Now I started to actually match the written data and my picture, and I did not understand the math, as six hits (4 medium and 2 light), gotcha, I did not show the near miss, but still I have one more - and there it is. Imperator Nikolai the first's 6" HE's belt hit lacks the little star. It did not penetrate! Wow. Guess the angle was too steep, or the fuze did not feel like working today otherwise, and boy, do I sympathize. Either way, that's an erroneously shown 6" HE penetration right on the midsection. Not that it mattered in the end though.

...and my unholy quest to produce more plastic than the marine ecosystem could chew continues! To add insult to injury, I cannot for the life of me photograph the white material showing actual details, but I sure can show every printing error. Which is fine, it will get better(?) after painting.
So, the 400-ton destroyer in it's gloriously weird "1 m -> 1,5 mm" scale, with a full lenght of about 100mm. The boats are shown as two little, unrecognizable blobs of plastic, again, will get better once properly painted and photographed - or so I hope. Now...
...I made a hole on the bottom, which is generally considered to be detrimental to a ship's watertight integrity. BUT!
...this is where innovation strikes! Not sure if I'll use these little stands in the long run, but having the option is not that bad. Well, then. Time for building.

It's okay; they're already holes in the ocean that you throw money into, anyways. You're just trying to streamline the process.

It's okay; they're already holes in the ocean that you throw money into, anyways. You're just trying to streamline the process. Looking at the cost of some paints and whatnot, they are so even when they are this small. Speaking of paint, the barely-more-than-a-torpedoboat is, as far as I am concerned, done!
I did make mistakes, plus this technology will not produce anything that could be directly compared to a "proper" injection molded model, but I did experiment with new stuff this time as well (hence the boats), and overall I'm content with the result. The model's dimensions are: Lenght ~ 100mm without the rudder, beam ~ 9 mm, height ~ 18mm without the mast.
