Another question;
Are tertiary guns worth using if I am going with 6” secondaries? I haven’t really been using tertiaries thus far.
Depends on the stage of the game, what you want out of the tertiary battery, and what it'll cost you to fit the tertiary battery.
6" guns have an accuracy penalty against sufficiently small ships - not sure what the cut-off is, but I know they have it against 600-ton destroyers - and the little destroyers aren't really resilient enough to make the hitting power of 6" guns more valuable than the rate of fire of some of the lighter guns, plus early game accuracy is such that 6" guns won't really have a practical range advantage over 4" and probably even 3" guns. As such, in the early part of the game it might be worth having a light tertiary battery for anti-DD work if you're using a 6" secondary battery - though you'd probably also be okay with only the 6" secondary battery.
4" and heavier tertiary batteries can also be used to place additional fire on the ship's primary target, which can be useful in the short-range engagements of the predreadnought period where ships are for the most part lost to fires and accretion of minor damage, or for cruiser engagements all game long if you handle your ships aggressively. The guns of the tertiary battery may also be of use in low-visibility engagements later in the game - the more stuff you can throw at a bunch of destroyers that emerged from the fog into the midst of your battle line, the better, even though it's never enough, and just as in the predreadnought period 4" or heavier tertiary guns can still be of some use against capital ships in such short range engagements.
That said, generally speaking my recommendation, if you're using a 6" or lighter secondary battery, would be to max out the secondary battery before adding a tertiary battery. The tertiary battery is mostly a defensive anti-DD battery whereas in the predreadnought period or on a cruiser a 6" secondary battery is more likely to be directly contributing to the ship's performance in its primary mission and will still be at least somewhat adequate for anti-DD work.
