Given that RTW2 is supposed to be released in March(?), is it time to close the RTW2 suggestion thread in the forum for the original game and start collecting suggestions in this forum into a single thread.
Seems to me that allowing new suggestions for more RTW2 content now will only lead to unmet expectations on launch.

The devs supported RtW pretty well after launch (we got a bunch of new treats) - might be a bit early to start talking RtW3 - but obviously the devs are the best placed to comment on that

I really think its too early for us to reply to any talk about a potential 'RTW3'.
I would much more like (at least for a while after RTW2 release) to see what else players would like to have added to RTW2 after release, and/or what expansions they might like for us to create for it.
Thanks.

I know I've harped on about this before, but my absolute top request would be for AI nations to interact with one another more directly and enter into independent conflicts.

And I would really like to see the start year in 1880 with correct technology. But I would likely buy all expansions for this game.

Thanks. Cold War! I think the RTW/RTW2/SAI tactical engine will hit a conceptual, not just a technical, limit around mid-1960's tech. Advanced C3 technology like the fully computerized ship, data links etc all came up around that timeframe. In additioan we have submarines with submerged speeds as well as sensors and effectors that allow them to directly menaingfully participate in the battle beyond what is supported by the engine. From that point on you need something like Command or the Harpoon series for tactical battles. Also, the focus of development and ship design goes ever more "micro" and "deep" with very significant elements lying below the "abstraction horizon", where the game becomes either too simple for the RTW level of ambition or to dreary to enjoy.

I think that it would be much better, much easier to make and much bigger fun to make the game start earlier, not end later. It would be great to see some coastal monitors, turret ships and even some ironclads in the game, fighting for naval dominance in the late 19th century.

Hum...well, personally I'd like to have a RTW game start around 1850 or so and advance to 1950...but don't take this as some sort of announcement

If RTW went as far as 1850-60 we would need deliberate ramming attacks and I guess a scale change of the battle map would be needed both to account for the slower ship speeds and much closer engagement ranges. There would also be a problem of the old, wooden battleships and frigates - many were still sail powered in 1850...
But said that, I'd LOVE to have those early years in game!
As a slightly related note, I'd like to see coastal crafts like gunboats, monitors, and coastal defence ships (both purpose built and converted old ships) and in-game purpose and missions for them - coastal patrol, land combat support, battles of small forces etc. especially early on (gunboats), in support of naval invasions (monitors) and Ko Chang style battles with CDS vs blue water navy.

I have always thought that RTW needed more coastal forces and battles. One builds coastal defences but they never seem to come into play. Monitors and MTBs especially. I think the best way to do that would be to have amphibious landing battles where the ships have to be close enough to shore to cover landing craft (generic, like merchants in convoy battles). This could be built into the invasion mechanism. I too would love to start in 1850 with wooden ships and early ironclads. Though I suppose it would take a complete rework of Steam & Iron to play it.
