I've actually, within the past hour, decide NOT to buy on the first day. I'll buy probably on June 10th.
I want to outline why as to help the developers understand why I'm making this decision.
Reason 1 (most important) - lack of local pricing.
I have $46.62 right now in my paypal. $46.62 Canadian. This is very close to the purchase price of the game, but close is not good enough. I need certainty. I've had problems with paypal before. In the bank I have about $39, $39 Canadian. In the event paypal decides to take ALL the money for the game out of the bank (which its done before despite be having MOST of the money in my paypal balance) I'm screwed. Not only does the bank hit me with a NSF, but paypal does too, and, pending the purchase options, NWS might as well. This could amount to over $100. The last time I got hit with a paypal NSF (after they decided to ignore my balance and take everything out the bank, despite my combined paypal and bank balance being enough) paypal restricted the things I could do, which severely hampered my ability to make online purchases.
Reason 2 (second most important) - the discount is not a discount, its a refund.
I bought RTW1, and if the discount was a true discount - IE a reduction in the purchase price - I'd have no problem. I "might" have $35 US in my paypal, but I "certainly" have $30. As outlined above, I need to have enough at the time of purchase, a refund after the fact still leads me to the same problems.
Reason 3 (still important but least most important)- $47 is a lot.
I know its only $35 US, but I live in Canadian dollars. Converting for PPP (Purchasing power parity) the game is $37.60 US for Canadians. PPP takes into account cost of living, with the Canadian dollar this low VS the US dollar, a pure translation under-estimates the value of our money. That extra two bucks is a lot for someone like me who lives on disability. If someone had handed me RTW and asked me to set a price for it, I'd have set it between $5 and $25 Canadian, pending things like how long ago it was developed, the size of the dev team, and that sort of thing. In short, the game is very highly priced. I understand why this is the case, but that does not make it any less highly priced.
To be clear:
I still do plan on buying the game.
I get money at the end of every month. This means May 31st. I then transfer it straight into my paypal balance, which, perhaps due to being Canadian, takes a full week and then some. Normally if I transfer money in on a friday, it gets in 2 months later. Hence June 10th. It's also not lost on me that the 3 weeks between release and when I can purchase will be enough time to work out any kinks with the game and/or the system of code release.
In short, to paraphrase "I will buy, but not today"
