My last thread for today; what do your "settings" (IE preferences) look like?
for me:
Colours:
Map:
I tried to make these match the game PTO from KOEI for the SNES; but some of the colours clash with the design of RTW, so I compromised on some of them.
Nation:
Germany gets a nice dark grey. I might need to make it lighter a touch or two in fact.
Austria gets a nice red due to its flag.
Britain gets pink, the most british of all colours.
France gets a light blue. Looks good in game given the map colours I use; but in the ship designer it looks like the ships are made of water!
Russia gets purple, mostly cause all the other 'good' colours are taken.
US gets a dark blue, a very 'american' colour.
Japan gets orange, on account of 'plan orange' being for Japan.
Custom. That's a bit tricky. I change this. Green is used when Italy is being played. Yellow when Spain is being played. and "Lion" at other times.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion_(color)
Lion is a colour I started using in a discord where the server admin was elected. I became admin and wanted a colour nobody else would request. I realized "poop" was a colour nobody would want, so started looking for the best "poo"like colour. Lion is what I came up with. Being a named colour, and with an easy to remember name, I could always find the hex or html codes easily in the future if I ever wanted to. During my time using it, the colour grew on me. Very "woody" colour. Now I use it when and where I can.
Pause settings:
Even with these settings, I get a pause on the first 'new sighting' which is exactly what I want. I get irked when, especially at night, the same dozen ships go in and out of my vision, pausing the game each time.
Interface:
I use the keyboard shortcuts, ctl or shift click, mostly, so this actually does not impact much; but I would prefer the ship to just keep going if I don't explicitly use a ctl click.
Display:
This is combined with a battle display that has all the buttons clicked! Well, everything to the right of the lock icon anyway. I also like to set 'names' to "type".
Sound:
I like hearing each and every gunshot. Game is too quiet as it is!
Performance:
0 clue what this does so I just leave it as-is.
Turret Flash Fires:
This option seems like it makes the game 'easier' but I like it challenging.
Realism:
I keep it like this, at least for now, while I learn how to sail my own ship around.
AI control:
When I do change my realism settings, I'll keep the AI setting to control everything at roundstart. Ideally I only take over when I need specific tasks done.
Flotation Damage:
Not 100% what this does; but I'm not good enough at this game yet to properly react to this information either way. Off for now.
Autosave:
I keep changing this every so often.
Open Fire:
I should prob change this to 'none' since I have all the sound effects on anyway.
Pause on ID:
I keep a close eye on the action, so I keep this off.
Pause on hit:
Like the flotation damage, I'm not good enough at this game yet for this to be useful for me to keep on.
