I was doing fine in my first game as Japan, fought some wars, gained some territory, all is good. Then I decided to start a second game as Germany focusing on the biggest battleships I could above all else, and every single battle the game would throw me into against Russia was horrifically mismatched.
*A cruiser battle where I get two heavy cruisers and the enemy gets 12 heavy cruisers
*Bombardment mission where the target is so far inland that I couldn't destroy it with heavy cruisers after 10 minutes of bombardment real time (also had to face a far larger fleet stationed right in front of the target)
*Small engagement where I get a handful of destroyers vs 4 light cruisers and destroyer escorts
*Convoy defence where I have 10 destroyers vs the entire Russian navy
The game became pretty much unplayable as every single turn I would have to fight a battle that consisted of me just running away because actually trying to complete the objective would result in my force being annihilated or at best accomplishing nothing anyway since their target is out of sight, meanwhile my blockade which has been up for a year and a half has accomplished nothing and despite having a far larger force in Northern Europe I haven't had an invasion of the Baltic yet. I outright dropped the campaign as it was frustrating wasting 10 minutes every month just turning my fleet around and waiting for the battle to end.
