Ladies, gentlemen, Admirals all; greetings
Reading the threads on the 1920s legacy fleets, and with the longer time frames of Rule the Waves 2, I was wondering what people would think about a succession Game.
What is a succession game?
Well in this case it is where we have multiple players play the same save game in succession.
This would truly give the fun of inheriting a legacy fleet, and budget from the previous Chief of the Navy, with all the potential complications of wars lost and won, meddling ministers of the Navy making doctrinal demands, Heads of State making a mess of things, pre-imposed Naval Arms limitation treaties, and possible allies and enemies from the preceding years.
So the idea would be
Once a Nation is selected
Player One starts as the newly minted Chief of the Navy, complete with AI built legacy fleets, no manual building.
They then have 15 years to shape the Navy into the best it can be, budget allowing, before retiring and handing the save file to player 2 when then in turn has 15 years, and so forth until the 1955 end date.
The idea being we all have different skill and knowledge level, different ideas of a good fleet, and will have no idea what the starting state will be in terms of budget, ships, tension levels and any potential treaties in place.
Now 15 years was just a length that seemed a good number, but we could also have additional rules to allow exceptions
If in a War, then the Chief of the Navy's term is extended until the war ends to allow them to retire in glorious victory (or ignoble defeat)
If there is a revolution due to unrest, Chief of the Navy's term ends early as the Revolutionaries appoint one of their supporter
If due to being dismissed due to low prestige, Chief of the Navy's term ends early, assuming the save can be salvaged by editing the file (not at home so cannot check)
Thoughts and ideas?
