Steps to reproduce:
- 1920 start as UK. - Go into ship design. - Set displacement to 12000 ton and belt to 10" - Set speed to 27 knot and fuel type to Oil - Observe armor weight as 5827 ton - Change displacement to 19000 ton - Observe armor weight as 2844 ton
Note how your ship displacement just increased by 58% yet your armor needed for the same thickness of belt got 51% lighter!!!

Yes, we have been discussing this on my Discord, and no one can seem to resolve the magic behind this.
If I had to guess (nothing more than a guess!), armor value is weird to compensate for engine value being weird, and the two settle to a good number together. But that's just a guess and the numbers we see for armor alone are hard to understand.
Apparently the magic numbers are 2200 tons, 13700 tons, and 18000 tons.

My guess is that the reason for the weird numbers is to compensate for their overall armor weight calculation being wrong ( using volume scaling instead of area scaling ) and that otherwise they couldn't make it work with reasonable belt/deck thickness for cruisers and battleships. This is just speculation though, there might be some other reason. nws-online.proboards.com/thread/2345/armor-large-ships-scale-volume

This bug also affects Belt,Belt extended, Deck, Deck Extended, and Conning Tower Armour but its less radical than on belt and deck armour.
The curve itself follows a line like this, it goes up until 13700 then it drops down until it starts to go up at 18000, reaching the point of the 13700 somewhere between 20000-40000 depending on the amount of armour used and what kind of armour it is.
