After seeing a surprising number of Chinese and Japanese players on this forum, I am rather curious if it would be at all possible to mod the language of the game to provide translations into another language? I am not sure if I have enough time on hand but would be interested to give a hand with Chinese localization if it is at all doable through modding.
Even if I may not end up having enough time to work on it, it will be interesting to see if any other players on the forum maybe interested to do localization mods of their own.

I am very interested. If realized, more Asian users will consider purchasing. I also trust you to work. But, as in the case of OFFICIAL RTW2 SUGGESTIONS THREAD, developers are working hard on improvement. They will be working according to their priorities. However, it is necessary for those who wish to speak out.
That's a suggestion for you, but there is Poll as a thread creation function. How about using it? I think that you can indicate that there are many applicants by specific numbers. (I have never used it)
... I can only translate google in English. I can not cope. I want to support you strongly. There is a Wiki of RTW series in Japan. I will call there. Please consider it.

I have indeed shared the notion of foreign language support and found that it had already been discussed. It will be some time before it can be considered again however, as at the moment bug elimination and feature tweaking are first priority, but William and Fredrik are both duly illuminated upon the matter. :]
I for one think it would be cool to build Asian ships whose name appeared as Kanij, with the English translation perhaps then (in parenthesis) after!

You are illuminated I will send it to my community. Also need some time. (My true intention, I want to know when I will be about) Of course, we will respect your priorities In Japan, mass media reports that Kanji is cool for Anglo-Saxons. Is that true? Kanji is based on hieroglyphs, so to put it in a nutshell, it's an art. I am glad to be rated cool

By the way, I think I need a complete language support soon. I think that only the font of the game program should be changed. Full language support requires a lot of time. Of course, complete language support is the best. Only the ship name is quite cool even in Kanji I tried, only the RTW ship name in kanji notation. It is a change of data file "japanshipnamedat" in the way of MOD. Then, Kanji appeared on the strategy screen, but it was useless on the battle screen. (I think that it is possible by the font change of SAI part) Although it is a secret, in RTW1, I enjoyed changing the font on the battle screen of the EXE file to a font that can be expressed in kanji. The change was made even for me, an amateur. It's cool.
What do you think? (I know that program change is not good, but I have no bad intentions. Don't misunderstand me.)

There is a Wiki of RTW series in Japan. I will call there. Please consider it. I didn't want to use the poll function since I have feel there is probably a very long list of languages to include. (We've seen players from Hungary, Czech, Netherland, Spain, and many more on this forum. Which is honestly very cool xD). I thought it is probably better to see if any one is willing to help with making language localizations to begin with. Like you said, the RTW team is rather busy with bug fixing and gameplay improvement, so might be too much to ask for them to go spend extra time on localization as well. I'd hoped that modding for language would be something relatively easy, but as is I think its not something I'd be able to do. Nevertheless if the teams needs help feel free to contact me Also took a look at the JP wiki, its very cool and maybe I try to do something like that for Chinese players when I have time xD

In Japan, mass media reports that Kanji is cool for Anglo-Saxons. Is that true? Kanji is based on hieroglyphs, so to put it in a nutshell, it's an art. I am glad to be rated cool I think it is cool & elegant both. In fact if I saw my name in Kanji I would think, "my name is not worthy to be spelled in kanji."
& I concur, Japanese ship names look awesome in Kanji, only my brain can't (no training) associate sounds with them, so I would prefer the English words alongside.

It is pleasing to present to Anglo-Saxons and others that apply Kanji to the feeling sound of the name exist. It's half kidding For example, your name Garryson is 義也理尊 ...mean"義=Righteousness,也=positive,理=Reason,尊=precious
for example William is 羽衣理亜夢 ...mean 羽衣=wing(Feather) clothes、理=Reason,亜夢=like a dream
If you show your name to Japanese and show this Kanji, you will be respected or smiles

For that matter, 吾妻 or Kanji for Azuma from Garrison's original post would more or less translate to "My Waifu" in the Kanji's Chinese equivalent. (It has a slightly different meaning Japanese I believe lol)

Yes,Yes, it's interesting Agatuma is the name of a mountain. I have climbed to the top, but it was tough and tough. Represent the truth ... It was a thread of MOD. In other words, Kanji is great so we can introduce it early

We can type in kanji after we start a game, and it works well in game when we reload this load file.
Then I try to change the .dat files, the text in the game shows garbled characters.
Maybe if I know what the Kanji code in the game are, I can probably solve it.(just ship names)
游戏中重命名船只可以输入汉字,并且可以顺利读档,显示正确,但我改shipnames.dat时在游戏里会出现乱码问题,我想就是汉字编码问题,【已经排除GB2312、Big5和UFT-16】。
这个解决了的话船名显示应该就没有问题了
如果需要的话我也可以帮忙汉化
BTW Suwa,Suwo, and Suo seems that it is just one ship name in Kanji :“周防/诹访”

I don’t know if he was able to moodily it through shipbames.dat though. But yeah unfortunately I’m not very capable with coding, if it’s just translating I’d be more than happy to help. Also if there is a Chinese board for rtw discussion I’d be interested to drop by xD.

As exambles: Ships using simple place names and human names use transliterations.Lexington>列克星敦 Saratoga>萨拉托加 Yorktown>约克城 Nelson>纳尔逊 Rodney>罗德尼 Nassau>拿骚 St. Louis>圣路易斯San Diego>圣迭戈/圣地亚哥Ships using animal names and stars, jobs etc. use l iteral translation, similar meaning as English.Enterprise>企业 Hornet>大黄蜂 Wasp>胡峰 Sirius>天狼星 Boxer>拳击手 Ocean>海洋 Independence>独立 Warspite>厌战 Renown>声望 And others are using both Prince William>威廉 亲王Manila Bay>马来亚 湾Wake Island>威克 岛 North Carolina> 北卡罗来纳 New Jersey> 新泽西 Duke of York>约克 公爵 Bon Homme Richard> 好人理查德 There are some exceptions Salt Lake City>盐 湖城White Plains>白 平原(Place name but using literal translation) King George V>乔治五世(Where is the title 'King'?)(Another translation is 英王乔治五世-The translation emphasizes that this is the King of England, not the King of France...)
Chinese translation is a habit problem. Everyone translates in this way so it becomes a customary thing. There is no reason that why we translate it like this.XD

Now I have successful changing IJN BBs name to kanji.
You know Game's .dat use UFT-8,and when the vessel name is displayed in the game, it uses the system language packs’ code. For mainland Chinese users, the code is GB2312 For traditional Chinese characters users, the code is probably be Big5. For Japanese users, the code is probably be Shift-JIS
I think I will be able to send out the Kanji version of the IJN ship names for GB2312 soon.

I do not know well, but does ".dat" entered in GB2312 mean that the kanji is displayed correctly?
