Very cool, Kyle. Seems they did a reasonable job to create realism in the final action.

I'm partial to Go For Broke with Van Johnson, and Twelve O'Clock High. While I'm not sure if it counts as a war movie, I also thought that The Best Years of Our Lives was pretty good.
[Holy thread necro Batman!]

[Holy thread necro Batman!] I enjoy Twelve O'clock high also. I used to watch the TV version every week. Go For Broke is good as is The Best Years of Our Lives. One of my favorites is Mrs. Miniver along with the Italian made "The Battle of El Alamein".

Good set of movies, I enjoyed Cross of Iron, the Great Raid, The Hunters and the Bridges at Toko-RI. I would like to see The Eternal Zero.

Here's Round Two: In which We Serve We Dive At Dawn! Waterloo Those are both good movies, I have all three. I may have mentioned this, but "Spitfire" is one of my favorites along with "They came to Cordura". The last is a little different from regular war movies but interesting with a good cast. Passage to Marseilles is also one of my favorites. Another good movie is "I bombed Pearl Harbor" with Toshiro Mifune. Its a 1960's Japanese movie that I saw in a Japanese theatre with a friend in the early '60's. You can find it in the IMDB movie database but I am still trying to find a non-vhs version. Here is a trailor - www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPQbFDjMYmw

My favorites are:
1. Das Boot 2. Gettysburg 3. Eine handvoll Helden
Last one will be not known to all non-Germans and even most Germans will not know it anymore. It was made in 1967 and tells the story of some Prussian survivors (about a squad) of the battle of Jena-Auerstädt. They have the task to block a bridge to secure the retreat of the beaten Prussian army. The situation is a mixture of Alamo and Thermopylae.

I'm looking for some good footage showing real life on a warship's bridge during ship vs ship battle in WW1 or WW2. Sometimes I go back to look at the crucial scenes of the "Battle of the Rio de la Plata", where some of the ships of the time appear (HMS Ajax and, briefly, HMS Cumberland). Unfortunately, the relative wind, which must have had some effect on the open bridge of a cruiser at 30 knots, is not simulated at all. Even the columns of water raised by the falling shots are not very credible.

Why don't you try "The Cruel Sea" with Jack Hawkins en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cruel_Sea_(1953_film)You can try " In which We Serve " en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Which_We_Serve

In this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=j97Fg_II7IIthere are many original scenes from the battle of Punta Stilo, which the British call the Battle of Calabria. The comment is almost always pure propaganda and the shots with the planes added (even badly) later.

" Come and See " -- A 1985 Russian movie. I'm not really sure it qualifies as a war movie ? Maybe more a holocaust - type movie , except in this case the victims aren't Jews , but Belorussians.
Best movie I have seen though , I think , on the subject of how brutalizing war can be.
" Lion of the Desert " -- A movie about a hero of Libya , and the Italian colonization of Libya. If 1920's - 1940's Italian uniforms , tanks , and armored cars interest you , this is the only movie I know of where you see plenty of those.
Interestingly -- at least to me -- the Libyan hero , Omarr Mukhtah , was Muammar Gaddafi's big hero , and this actually quite decent movie was primarily financed by Gaddafi.
