Hello,
I think to remember, that a WW2 German Ship was build so that the Turrets could be easier replaced in wartime with bigger calibre turrets, afair to not be in breach of treaties during construction. This means a fast way of replacement has been factored into the design.
I would be interested to be able to build simialr ships, so that I can replace their turrets easier/faster/cheaper when time has come. This could be a check-box similar to crossdeck firea nd unlocked once a certain ship-design tech has been reached.
Thank you for reading,
Ico

It wasn't really a ship problem but a yard problem. Most turrets were only held in by gravity so they could just be lifted out. However, one needed a VERY large crane to do this and that was never really available. Therefore, most turret rebuilds needed the turret to be dismantled first, which took a long time.

Thank you for reading, Ico I believe you are thinking of the Twins aka Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, however as when it came to it found the ships would need to be lengthened slightly as they needed 300 tons more displacement to cope with the twin 15" turrets, also of course all the shell handling gear in the barbettes and magazines needed to be enlarged. The refit of Gneisenau even had it gone ahead was unlikely to be quick nor cheap.

If we're going to do something like this, I'd rather have a "Modular design" checkbox of some sort, where you pay a bit of extra mass to make the ship easier to refit/upgrade. (That said, I'd only want something like that if it's at least historically plausible, and I'm not sure if it is.)

OOTF - The MEKO design concept dates from the late 70's (dev) and was introduced inthe 80's, STANFLEX came a bit later.
