After I tried it for a while, I found it is possible to change the shipnames.dat and made ship names in the game to display kanji. However, this file maynot be used between different default system display languages cause of the difference of kanji codes. This file is for GB2312 code, based on simplified chinese system,if anyone have Garbled problem and wants to use this dat directly , you can change the default display language to Simplified Chinese in the system settings, or use the transfer-code software to start the game.[if there is such software. I only know that there are some some software can transfer Japanese code to others] It works well on my computer till now. This document changed the location of many IJN ship names according to the ship naming rules, removed some of the names that looked particularly stupid(or vulgar), and added some other ship names. At the same time, a small number of CVs' names were fabricated based on historically naming styles. JapanShipNames.dat (11.88 KB)

The process of translation is not too difficult
After opening the .dat file, switch its code to the Chinese character encoding of your own system to edit the file, then switch the document back to UFT-8 after editing. 打开文件后,将文件的编码方式从UFT-8直接切成你电脑默认显示所用的汉字编码方式,然后编辑完文档后再直接切回UFT-8
Instead of converting to UFT-8,just switch directly back. 不是转换成UFT-8而是直接切过去【这时候可能在dat里看到刚才编辑的东西全变成了乱码,但是显示到游戏里是正常的】

I don't know how some Kanji words in Big5 and Shift-JIS should be represented. Some Character conversions are lost during normal conversions. Here I upload the docx file for traditional Chinese text as a reference. If someone else wants to localize the conversion, you can use this as a basis. JPshipnames.docx (48.91 KB)

But it did not work well in Japanese environment. I put Chinese language pack in windows 10, recoded, and tried variously. It was a great deal of information, but I'm sorry I couldn't make a good report. リリースありがとう。でも日本語環境ではうまく動作しませんでした。 windows10に中国言語パックを入れたり、コーディングしなおしたり、いろいろ試しました。 せっかくの情報でしたが、良い報告ができずにすいません。

Well I should have said before that different systems will display garbled characters in the default display language,And I don't know what some Kanji should be look like in Japanese. Now there are three ways to deal with it, The first way is to switch your system display language to Simplified Chinese, which is easy to do under Win10 system. The second way is to modify it in the .Docx file, then use Notepad++ to change the text encoding to Shift-JIS and then copy the text into it. Then turn the code directly into UTF-8 and put it into the game data. The third way is that you can edit the docx file to Japanese Kanji and send it back to me. I will do the next steps and come with .dat file. The important thing is to find the default code of the words displayed on your system. I think the Japanese user is Shift-JIS.

Thank you. Kanji can be displayed. It is limited. Introduce the way. It is Windows10. In the system locale setting, you can select language display other than UTF8. Change from Japanese to Chinese. The only limitation is that it can only be applied with "RenameShip". I also found a way to generate from "Shipname.dat", but this time I will not be able to "RenameShip". So I omit it. It's possible with your advice. Thank you very much. If you are Japanese and want to know how, please PM for me.

Hi shota, good news! Ntleas cannot work in Win 10 System, but Locale Emulator can! Download this program at github.com/xupefei/Locale-Emulator/releasesUnzip and click LEInstaller.exethen click LEGUI.exe to set it to Simplified Chinese and save as Run in chinese. Then use my .dat file directly, then right click RTW2 and select Locale Emulator>Run in ChineseAnd Kanji might display correctly!Although some UI will have display problems. Although you can't directly input Chinese characters by Japanese input method, we can first input the desired ship name into other software (such as TXT or Word or browser), then copy and paste it into the game, so that it can be displayed correctly. This is the effect of using the Chinese system to rename a ship to Japanese katakana using the above steps. It works very smoothly.

I made a promise with you. I edited the wiki.
If you see Japanese people who need kanji display, you can probably understand. If the number of Japanese users increased in this case, you contributed to it!

Congratulations! I am busy recently, so I didn't saw this progress until today. I am very happy if I made a contribution to Japanese players. Regrads
