A whole host of things went wrong in this battle:
1) It said it was a medium coastal raid by the enemy, but the enemy (French) had 2xBC, 3xCV, 2xDD and 7xTR. BTW, this is one of those unbalanced scenarios people have been discussion: I had 1xCL, 4xDD under my control, plus 12xDD and 14xKE on trade protection. Because this is the English channel vs France, my land-based air was pretty much completely suppressed. I'm pretty sure that the reason for the imbalance is that the computer set this up as a French invasion of the UK (7xTR and an enemy "reach objective with 4 TR" objective). Note that I've got strong superiority in N Europe, at least 4 BB etc.
2) The reason I think it was an invasion is the first battle of the sequence was an invasion by me of Tonkin, which the computer declined (since it had no forces there). The first good news is that this fired on my 3rd turn of 1.0.4, while I'd been waiting forever for it to fire in 1.0.3. In addition, when the French declined I got the unopposed invasion message, so that bug appears fixed as well. The next also wanted to be an invasion, in a zone without one. I got about 4 declines by the French before a battle was accepted - the coastal raid was the first to trigger. So I suspect this is the bug where the battle type isn't being completely cleared.
3) After playing about 1000 turns, I got error box pop up. Apologies - I didn't capture or investigate it, but at least one of the boxes was complaining about out of memory. Note that there's been a LOT of action at this point - the enemy planes and BC were beating up on my light coastal defense forces. Note that I sent my CL and the escorting DD into port around turn 280.
4) When I got the first error, I tried doing the save/restore trick. I think that's when I got the out of memory error box - during the save.
5) When I reloaded I got several "can't find file" messages for classes like liffey. Note that I installed to my c:\games directory, so this is probably due to the error interrupting the save. I saved and reloaded again and didn't get any errors.
6) When the battle finally finished, I got a "CL Canada torpedoed by an enemy sub while withdrawing". Except it had been in port for something like 16 hours at that point, and it was Plymouth not Scapa Flow Fortunately this double-shot didn't sink Canada - it just damaged it more. I originally thought this was a simple bug where the torpedo routine wasn't checking for ships in port, but then
7) I noticed that the OOB said I had two CL, not one. I went to the spreadsheet to find the second one, and discovered Canada had been cloned! Looking more carefully, there's also 3xDD that were cloned. Note that they're all damaged and in port. Don't know if this was caused by the error during save or something else.
8) Almost forgot - my land airbases were launching strikes where the message claimed it was launching planes, but due to pre-battle suppression there were actually only ~5 planes - the others were damaged.
9) Also just noticed that the French TR I sunk are listed as "Invasions Transports" in the spreadsheet. So it looks like it was definitely an invasion OOB for the French.
That's all I can think of; have fun
