Can anyone help with this? Sorry, but I can't remember if this is the right place to post for tech help/bug problems.
Are entries that appear in the log tab meant to be clickable and then you are centred on the subject? Because that doesn't seem to happen for me. Plus see the pic attached. I have dialogue/info boxes that appear and are not big enough, but I can't re-size them. Any ideas?
thanks.
Peter
See the blue entries that just give the name of the Cressy. What's that about? Is it connected to the little dialogue box that appeared (shown in first pic)?

Sorry to see you're having issues.
If I recall correctly, the ability to centre the map on events that were happening out of site was removed from the game as it provided what was essentially a cheat, overcoming the Fog of War built into SAI. It is certainly frustrating to know that there is an action occurring without being able to determine exactly where it is but at some point you should receive a spotting report (perhaps several) although these may be significantly delayed.
I believe that the truncated popup messages are a function of this as well, no specific information is given because none would be known.
Real time accounts of what is actually happening during combat or catastrophic events are confusing enough in our modern information age with dozens of cameras, twits and iPhones as immediate witnesses. In the days where over the horizon communications were limited to Morse Code, confusion, bad data and a lack of required information virtually always delayed the response.
SAI is designed to log many events, I suspect that the bold, coloured entries are Cressy being struck by torpedoes. The problem appears to be programming the game not to display information from an action that is being fought outside of the vision of any Player units but displaying that same data under normal conditions. Not being a programmer, I have no idea how much work might be involved to do this without introducing other issues.
One can generate all sorts of scenarios where some real time information might be available; desperate calls for help by a panicky wireless operator for example might provide a rough narrative without giving necessary information. Confusion and chaos will virtually always reign supreme, particularly when taking into account external communications. I consider it part of the charm of the SAI system in that when it comes to actions out of view I generally know the what and the when but not the where and by whom. Fredrik, the developer, does read all these posts but is working full-bore on Rule the Waves. It is unlikely that he will be working on another SAI patch for a while at least; any action on this is his call and I am certain that he will consider your observations in any future SAI update.
Thank you for the feedback and the screen shots.

Thanks Christopher. I'm on board with the limited info on beyond sight events, no probs. But for just the name of the ship to appear in big blue letters with nothing else looks very much like something (small) not working as intended, I thought - hence I posted. And the little box with the same ships name in it (in the first photo) - that it was truncated looked like a graphics glitch, I think - the writing is cut-off, not an intended circumstance, I'm sure. But if we're done finessing SAI and RJW then so be it. These things are not game stoppers, no where near, obviously. Been having great fun with both RJW and SAI last few weeks. Look forward to RtW, though I'm disappointed that no dev time going into RJW and SAI now (understand, but disappointed) as, for me, the recreation of these historical situations and campaigns is a huge part of the beauty of the games and system and I'm not super interested, myself, in designing ships that didn't exist historically. Just my preference. But it may be something like the preference of many of the people who bought SAI and RJW, so shame, as I say, that development on these is over. IMHO.

Please do not insert blanket assertions into my post that are not there. Just to be clear I cannot go so far as to state that Fredrik is done with the SAI series but it is unlikely that he will have the opportunity to create any updates in the near term; at least until after Rule the Waves is released and any issues with it are addressed.
Thank you.

After 'Rule the Waves' is released Fredrik has indicated that he will roll whatever fixes/updates are possible back into SAI and RJW - so please do not think that those games are not to be updated. We want to get RTW out in a reasonable time frame and thus that has priority right now, of course.
Thanks!

When I have sent bug reports direct to NWS Fredrik has made clear in his replies to me that they are logged for further work when he has time.
