I know this has been brought up previously, but I couldn't see a thread for it here.
I just started a new game, and built my starting fleet. I'm about to start setting my "ships under construction." This is what the Almanac currently looks like:
I (Germany) have 2 battleships, both pretty standard 4x12", 10" belt designs, although I did manage a 20kn design. Britain also has 2 battleships. Both have 2x10" guns, one has a 7" belt, the other a 6" belt. Both can make 18kn. Italy also has 1 battleship, which has 2x10" guns, a 6" belt and an 18kn top speed. For reference, Italy also has 3 armoured cruisers, all the same class; 4x10" guns, 8.5" belt, and 21kn. In other words, their armoured cruisers are faster, better armed and better armoured than any battleships except mine. In fact, looking through the ship lists of all the countries, my 2 battleships are the only ships in the world that stand any chance against those Italian cruisers; even my own CA doesn't stand much of a chance (4x9", 5" belt, but 24kn, so at least I can run away). Oh, and did I mention that they have 3 of them?
EDIT: It's now February 1900. There seems to be something of a battleship rush taking place, as everyone realises that either they have no battleships, or the ones they do have are woefully underpowered. Italy laid down another of their cruisers, another of their terrible battleships, and a battleship that might actually be decent (14,800t). Britain also laid down another of the battleships with 7" belt, Russia laid down 2 14,800t battleships, and Japan a 11,700t battleship. Fance and the US still have no battleships, either in service or under construction. France, I can understand, to an extent (Jeune Ecole), but not the US.
