To recap and analyze the battle and/or present it in an AAR, we have a very handy tool in-game:
Unfortunately, some chaotic events are hard to trace back even on the most strict option (showing only forces slash flagships). However, it is clear that the game logs time-and-location data, so with a slider of some kind the player could analyze the batte's flow step-by-step, gaining a better overview about distances and locations relative to the fighting forces at any given time:
On the example above, it is clear that given the bad visibility, the two forces did not locate each other. On the original picture, the same information is present, but in some cases, huh, good luck retrieving it from the clutter.
Other idea is that by logging the position of an airbase/CV at a given moment and also registering the coordinates of the strike the player or the AI ordered, a vector could be drawn to show the aerial aspect of the game, something like this:

I love this idea. I always thought that part of the game could use some fleshing out. It would certainly make AARs better, although I don't do them myself.
