I know the concept of AoN armour, but what is the benefit of the AoN armour tech ingame which gives "full benefit"? Does it implement the armoured raft idea and make flooding in the bow/rear less of an issue? Or in other words, what's the downside of ignoring BE and DE armour from day 1? I'm guessing just the worse damage control levels early on make flooding more of an issue if you're bow gets filled with holes, but is there more?

If you have developed AoN armour, ships with that configuration will be built with a better configured "armoured raft" concept that will make it less vulnerable (but not invulnerable) to hits in the fore and aft parts. This in contrast to early 20th century ships which could be vulnerable to flooding in the unprotected parts.
It will also save slightly on armour weight.

A few questions relating to AoN;
1. Does it still work if you decide to lightly armour the ends (say 1-2in?) instead of 0 armour? I've noticed it still provides weight savings this way, but might help protect from smaller weapons.
2. Does the effect also work for CA? Or just for BB/BC?

It works for all ship types, but to get the benefit BE and DE must be 0.

Rather than making a new thread:
Is there any reason NOT to use Increased elevation guns once you invent them? It doesn't seem to add any cost or weight, but it's a checkbox as if there might be circumstances where you wouldn't want it.

I think the main difference is more for rebuilds than new ships - you have to commit to a rebuild if you want to add it to an old ship, even if your new ships start with increased elevation by default.
