I had several situations in my playthrough where I wa hampered by inability to organize divisions in a way that makes sense. I believe it would be a great addition to allow us to move ships between divisions while in battle (already on the tactical map).
The way I see it: an engagement is generated, game decides which ships are present. The player gets thrown into a battle with his ships automatically joined into divisions, but in a way that doesn't always make sense. At that point give us the ability to detach and attach ships to different divisions, and create new ones.
1. Ships detached manually by player should NOT auto-reattach, like they do now. Auto-reattach should hapen only after being automatically detached because of loss of visual contact with divison, etc.
2. Split the "detach" command into two: "Detach and go back to port" - which would send the ship back to friendly port, preferably while avoiding enemy contact, without worrying that it willr andomly return to battle (like they do now). and "Detach" - this would split the ship from the divison it is in, but the ship would still accept orders from player and remain in battle.
3. To the "orders" dropdown box (where you can select "core, screen, support, etc") add option "attach". A ship with this order will try to reach and attach to it's leader divison (the one it's set to). If the division with attach order is under AI control (checkbox) it will actively maneuver to attach, if its under manual control it will attach if it happens to come close enough.
4. Allow us to drag and drop ships between divisons in the order-of-battle display on the left side (where the log usually is).
Certain situations from my playthorugh where I wished this feature was in the game:
1. I have 5 BBs. 3 of them can make 25kts, two of them can make 21. Theya re split into 3 divisions. 1st Divison is 2x25kts ship, 2nd is 1x25kts ship and 1x21kts ship, 3rd is 1 x21kts ship. Of course I would like to detach the 21 kts ship from divison 2 and move it to divison 3.
2. I have 2 identical CVLs in battle. For some reason they are split into two divisions (so i have two divisons one carrier each). That is annoying both in fleet view and in strike menu, I would like to join them into one division.
3. My CVL is in divison with my battlecarrier, I would like to split them into two divisions.
4. My glass-cannon long range battleship is in division with my short-ranged brawler battleship. I would like to split them into separate divisions.
This suggestion is NOT to let us decide what ships are in battle, but to let us reorganize what ships we get in a sensible manner, especially important if the speeds of ships dont match.
