Add another Column on the 'Ships in Service' tab called 'Fleet Groups'. On the "Ships in Service Tab', add 2 items to the Right+Click menu for ships:

Remove Fleet Group
Assigning a ship(s) to a Fleet Group would let you assign it to a number from 1-9.
Removing a ship(s) to a Fleet Group would remove its number from the Fleep Group column.
Allow us to sort all ships by numerical order by clicking on the Fleet Group sub-tab.
This will allow us to assign fleet groups that we can sort to make it easier to select ships and move fleets around the map.
It takes a significant amount of time to send fleets clustered in home areas around the world to defend your colonial holdings. It would be nice to have a way to assign groups to all the ships in a home area so when they need to be deployed, you just have to sort by fleet groupings, highlight those ships and send them where they need to go. That would be much faster than scrolling to pick a few ships out of each class and sending them out, then having to do it again and scroll thru the list, etc.
In this example below, I have clicked on the 'Fleet Group' sub tab and it has sorted all 3 of my fleets at the top going down in a column. Fleet 1 consists of 2xBB and 5xDD, Fleet 2 is a BB, CV and 2xDD and the third fleet is a destroyer flotilla. So now I can just highlight the selected fleet and send them wherever, easy peasy. Also in the pic is the right click menu showing the addition of the Add and Remove Fleet Group buttons.
