In most of my campaigns my endgame BBs follow Nelson-class layouts, with the standard ABL arrangement. However, this often means that my A and B turrets run out of ammo well before my L turret, as they have a much better arc of fire. I generally am unwilling to leave a BB with a 3 gun broadside in combat, so often about half of the L turret's ammo goes to waste.
I would thus like an option to tweak the amount of ammo allocated to each turret during the design phase. For my Nelson-classes I would enjoy being able to, instead of 100 rounds for each gun,be able to set a 115A,115B,70L loadout.

As an interm adaption you can reduce the barrels of the less used turrets. In some mid game cruiser designs Ive done 3A 2Y

For my part I tend to eliminate L turret altogether and put the weight into speed and/or armor.

I find that 2 quad turrets (A and B -superfiring) work well... A,B,L worked for the Nelrods, though (IIRC) Rodney used only A and B with the Bismarck action... I think that there was a common magazine for all 3 turrets.
The addition a Y turret adds a lot to the displacement, a superfiring X adds more...

Please note I was just trying to explain a way to simulate different ammo loads front/back by varying the number of barrels rather than shift the thread into turret layout discussion.

I can certainly see the premise behind this and would like to recommend a look into main turret ammo allotments also. My luck though and I'd lose the turrets with the most ammo first... Still a good idea.

Still a good idea. "Two nearby turrets hit!" is the ban of my late game gun line. Usually the guns are disabled. Usually by this point the fleets are big enough that one or two (or three or sigh four) incidents in a long battle can be managed by pulling the ship off to mend-and-return.

Oops! My bad. I've just checked with my copy of Friedman British Battleships. The plan for the Nelrods shows separate shell rooms for each turret. Mind you, it needs a magnifying glass to read the details.
