I am playing RTW2 1.12 USA 1900 start, with randomized tech development and slowed down aircraft development.
The issue is: an invasion fleet battle commenced where it was not supposed to. Moreover, there was no indicated objective for the transports to escort to, making the objective impossible to accomplish. Attachment 1: results of the battle indicating failure to reach the objective.
The way it occured:
1.) In late 1910s, I allied with Britain.
2.) Around 1919-1920, we won a war with Russia and I took Liaoning Peninsula colony from them, to serve as a base against Japan and Germany's oriental squadrons.
3.) So, when a war with Germany erupted in 1924, I joined forces with Britain in Northern Europe area to blockade Germany.
4.) Eventually I staged an invasion of their colony, Tsingtao, from nearby Liaoning. That same month a Battleship Engagement - Invasion Battle prompt popped up - which I accepted, but Germany did not and the invasion commenced without interference.
5.) The next month, there was a Fleet Battle - Invasion Battle prompt, which I once again accepted. The location was in North Sea, with no German possessions neither I nor my ally Great Britain could invade. Moreover, the initial placement (right north of Frisian coast) indicated that the invasion was supposed to go straight into Germany proper, although no objective marker was placed, and the transports were useless.
6.) Seeing no way to use them properly, I engaged German battleline head on (Attachment 2, a destroyer squadron escorting the transports could be seen). At twilight, a retreat back to Britain began, but the invasion forces lagged behind and ultimately were ambushed by German battlecruisers, which forced my squadrons to re-engage them, resuming the battle, but the transports all sank with their destroyer escorts that severely damaged three battlecruisers amid the chaos.
That's it. The invasion of Tsingtao was a success (i.e. a land engagement was ongoing) by the time this bugged out fleet battle happened.
