I can't recommend this method of resolving this issue, as in some cases the installer may not be able to provide the original file since it uses a 'difference' method to create/replace files. If the installer cannot provide the file then the game will be missing that file, and at some point the game will throw an error about the missing file(s).
You should be able to simply re-install the game using the original installer (do not uninstall the game first) to the same exact location without needing to re-activate the game. You could then use the v1.15 (or whatever is the latest) update to re-patch the game at that point.
