Sounds as if we just might be in the home stretch now, and I certainly hope so. I do believe in the old adage "when it's done it's done", but it might be time for a short summary of what's been tested and adopted? Sort of like the catalog that was put out months back? Communications are everything most times (and it keeps people like me from hollering "are we there yet" ) and while it would be wrong to expect developers and betas to drop everything day after day just to post here, maybe a short bi-weekly update on progress would help. Even a monthly status report would be good. There may be NDA restrictions that inhibit this I'm sure. Like I say, when it's done it's done. I just don't want to feel as if things here are anything like a recently re-formed company (with a big name from the 1980's and 90's) who've announced a whole slew of great sounding titles (a few of which are naval) last year, and then have gone dark. Or, the recent habit of many developers lately to put a partially completed title into an early access status, and after collecting some funding slowing development to a crawl. Those are some of the biggest mistakes any company/developer can make IMHO. But it still all comes back to communications. Honestly, I'm not whining or complaining. In fact I very rarely post at all, but I just think that maybe it's time for a status report with a little detail. Reading wish lists and suggestions are OK, but just speaking for myself, I'd like a little more. This might be heresy to some I realize, so I'll apologize now.

Lol...yes, I got carried away with the caps. How much will be the DLC? Will it be sold separately, or included in the base game as an free update to those who have already own the base game? It will not be free...we have worked on it for almost 2 years now and we need to be able to pay our bills/make a living/etc...we will have an important announcement about this in the fairly near future, so please bear with us. Thanks!

Personal Story/Mini-Rant: I (as a developer myself) really like to support and encourage other developers, but I have personally been burned by 'early access' buy-ins on Steam so many times now that frankly it has made me strongly dislike the 'early access' model of development. [Rant mode off] As I mention in my post above we will have some updates on everything soonish - while we have been extremely busy here in the 'home stretch' that does not excuse my lack of updates, so my apologies for that. Thanks.

William,
I can relate fully to the Steam Early Access story you told. I've been roped in by that as well, now it's never again for me!
On the other hand one of the best operations I've ever seen where announcements and updates are concerned comes from Out of The Park Productions. They wait until a month or two prior to release, and then publish a series of screenshots, and descriptions highlighting what's new each year for their baseball simulation. Only once in 20+ years have I even seen them fail to deliver some feature they promised (that was head to head online play), and they apologized profusely for that. Otherwise it's extremely rare for them to miss a release they've announced by even a day or two. A class act, but then they've had 23 years now to get it right!

Ya’ll better you’re rabies shots, you have a lot of customers frothing at the mouth that want this thing finished or not, patch later.

It's three days short of a month now since I last posted suggesting that bi-weekly or monthly development status reports however short might be a good idea. I also mentioned my belief that good communications are crucial to any project.
Since then, nothing has happened, and over on another thread (which is supposed to be dedicated to "news"), it's just more of the same - wish lists, general and technical naval discussions, and a somewhat vague statement about speaking to the lead designer about maybe releasing some information. Now, some of the naval/technical discussion is really good and full of interesting information, but that's not what the thread was created for. Wish listing happens because people are really into RTW, and anxiously waiting. In the end though, as was pointed out, the thread would be almost empty otherwise.
I seem to recall that the designer is in Europe. Traditionally during the summer a lot of things and people shut down for long vacations there, so we may be running up on a dry spell when it comes to obtaining any new information.
One person has suggested that maybe some Youtubers be given permission and encouraged to post up some in progress beta videos. I'm not really sure about that, but on the other hand anything is better than what we have right now.
One day, maybe even this year the "DLC" will finally get released. For myself, I'm a little discouraged, and I'll be going back to my read but don't post mode. More than a few people have tried to pry some bits of information out but with no success, and I hope we hear something sooner than later, but I'm not really sure if that will happen.

I'm sorry you've become discouraged, but we've all been working very hard to dot some 'i's and cross some 't's, and sometimes we can't be as vocal or straightforward about that as we want. However, I think williammiller might agree that we can now count our next news release more appropriately by the days, rather than weeks.
I know it is hard to accept "keep your chin up" when that has been said a fair number of times, but I really think you will be happy with what you see soon. Hang in there, Everyone!

I can say that within a few days (end of next week at the very latest) we will have major news/update about the game, even including a...wait for it... solid release window.... shudder...

This is the part where you tell us we will get nuclear propulsion for submarines and be able to design them like ships?

Actually, they will reveal to have acquired the rights to the Warship Gunner series and RTW3 will actually be in 3D, involve everything from 100 mm peashooters to wave motion guns and will feature a wacky anime plot.

This is the part where you tell us we will get nuclear propulsion for submarines and be able to design them like ships? Doubt that. But I also dont care about that too much. In fact, all I want is AI VS AI conflict and manual squadron forming. That is all. Really. Everything else (including the earlier and later tech period) is just a bonus that comes with the package. I cant really care less about subs (as the only factor I consider in regards to subs is my DDs´ ASW value), or ship captains, or whatever. Oh, and there should also be a function for carrier side deck lifts and flight deck parking. And that should NOT be considered a part of the DLC, as its literally a part of the game now, just the actual function is somewhat missing. Other than that, I´d also very much appreciate a patch that would bring back the option to make a historical Scharnhorst CA with the big calibre single turret secondaries tech, as I doubt that you´d really need the knowledge how to make the historical Blücher in order to make a historical Scharnhorst. The ship speed design between 33 and 40 kts should also be fixed in order to allow historical designs.

Looks as though we're back to wishlists, and pet wanted features.
None of us are going to get everything we ask for or determine are must have features. No release is flawless either, so a lot of things could be added via patching, and usually are with a lot of software.
I'll be happy if we can get a semi-final features list, and some sort of release timetable this week as "promised".
It's been a long wait with very little information, and during that period what began as a sort of Super Patch turned into a DLC, and after all this time, testing, and development, could probably be called " Rule The Waves 3".
Time to get this out the door so people can spend some money, and the Dev Team can profit from all of their work.
