Does anyone know what the general effect of the "Eastern" government type is?
Also, while its far too ambitious for me, I idly mused earlier this week about a whole set of custom nations representing a "what-if" scenario where the conflicts between Spain, Britain and France in the late 1700s and early 1800s went different (how exactly I'm not sure) featuring a reduced in power Britain and a stronger France and maybe Spain and/or Russia, assuming Napoleon decided not to strike against them. Maybe throw in a stronger more reformed Ottoman Empire and China too just to shake up the usual power blocs even further.

I don't know the effect of an 'Eastern' government; Fredrik would have to answer that.
Great minds think alike; I've been turning over ideas for a 'What if Napoleon Won' game. The problem is that it would require an entirely new BNAT file (and a new shipname file for France), and it would be a hassle for some people to copy the old ones and install the new.

Why would it require a new BNat file? Now that custom nations can have eachother as opponents you can just set up every nation as a custom nation. Only reason I'd not do it is A) laziness to set up that many warinfo files even with the editor B) no confidence in coming up with a decent/plausible alt-history of such significant scale of change, my Alt-Hist Ottomans feel questionable enough. Speaking of Which, I've updated my Ottoman's slightly, including a 2nd version that does a bit of Alt-history tinkering (not much, just a slight change in government type) Ottoman Download LinkI've also created a version of Spain that assumes the Spanish-American war actually happened, just in case you wanted the weakest faction in default RtW even weaker.

Well, there is a limit to the number of colonies a nation can have - it's 10, including home territories. And I wanted the player to be Britain, with a huge navy, facing a really rich and formidable continental foe. So an 'Imperial France' could not have all of the colonies that France actually has in the regular game, much less be assigned anything else. But any standard-game French colonies that couldn't be assigned to Imperial France then start the game as French - so you have both France and Imperial France.
So I wound up realizing that if I had to make new custom nations out of Italy (to maybe absorb the old French colonies while losing mainland Italy to France) and France, just so the player could play as Britain, then I might be better off to just make a new BNAT file with Imperial France and get it the way I wanted it.
And the shipname file needs to be redone for Imperial France. The standard file has too many names that a Bonapartist France would not.
If that's not clear, let me know and I can send you some of my prep work so you can see what I mean.

I didn't realize custom nations were limited to 10 possessions. I guess I didn't think that Possession10= or whatever wouldn't work (didn't think about it at all, really).
Could you maybe squeeze a few more possessions out by using HomePossession= for the home areas? HomePossession#= works I think.

Interestingly, I did find today that while I couldn't edit dock capacity cost/construction time, I did find that editing map regions is relatively straightforward. So I think it is very well possible to create new "regional" campaigns - though obviously nation and map data for the whole game would have to be changed.

"Napoleon Won" opens many interesting options indeed! For example, it would mean Poland exist and is important power (though mostly land power, but if AH can be in, then why not )), while Russia and AH are much weaker, Germany too would either not exist (never unified) or would be weaker. I already made up alt-history for custom nation Poland (in fact Polish-Lituanian-Ukrainian Commonwealth) and made ship name list, but was stopped by map edits necessary.

See my idea wasn't so much "Napoleon Won" as maybe something like nobody won, instead everyone exhausted themselves for a time, eventually ending up vaguely equal in power. Maybe the British lost Trafalgar, resulting in their fleet being crippled for years, but were still able to easily prevent any invasions of the islands (but might've lost colonies in the process). What happens on continental Europe I'm less certain of, but while I would be interested in seeing France as the big power of the alt-hist setting, I don't want to see them completely dominating Europe. Instead I'd like to see powerful a Russia, Ottomans, and Spain. Italy and Germany (As we know them) might be on the chopping block, maybe merge much of eastern Europe into some Prussian/Austrian confederation. In Asia maybe the harder grind of the European Wars resulted in China being able to restore itself to some measure of power, but Japan (And Russia) is still a looming threat.
For the US, they'd probably continue as normal, though I guess if you really wanted to, you could always throw in the CSA too.

warshipgunner.wikia.com/wiki/Wilkianot much to go on, there isn't much backstory in the warship gunner games. it's a small nation in the area between japan and russian with a disproportionately large navy, even before the face-heel-turn happens and they start crapping out stupidly large superships.

Is it possible to change the world map at all? I really want to do a South-America centred game. Brazil, Argentina, Chile probably- maybe throw in a couple others further north if I can be bothered, but focused on those three. It'd work a lot better with different zones to the default in the game, but I have no idea if that's possible.

I only remember Fredrik saying not to mess with the map file much - I think the AI depends on certain things. Besides, you'd need 6 players to make a game - so use the world map and add the US, Britain and maybe France or Germany?
