I thought it was going to be as well, it might be just due to the partnership, sadly i am most likely going to miss out on the sale as my vehicle got vandalized, Unless they are running the sale for the first month or so. I don't see any sign of a sale, and that is the odd part.

I'll just add a note here on the pricing. We considered doing a discount for previous owners of RTW, but unfortunately the records there were incomplete and would not allow us to fairly upgrade everyone. RTW3 also started out as an expansion, but turned into a full game size effort, three years of development. Based on that, we decided to release it at $39.99, which is $5 more than RTW2 but still about $10 less than we would typically price a niche wargame with this amount of development effort and gameplay included. We think it's a good deal at the current price but I want to be clear that this was a Matrix Games decision and if you want to be upset at anyone, send it our way. Our goal in this is to make sure that Fredrik gets reasonable compensation for the effort he puts into RTW3, while it still being a very reasonable price for the amount of historical strategy and gameplay it offers. The additional features and content in RTW3 are IMHO worth the price of entry and we're planning to support and build on RTW3 going forward.

So to be clear, going forward it's going to stay at this price though and not increase? If so then i will definitely purchase it when i am financially able to reasonably do so, I was worried if this was the actual discount, and the real price was going to be say 60$

The price will not be going up after release, $39.99 is the base price for the game. In the long run, I expect as with our other games we will eventually explore lower price points during promotional sales to make it more accessible to those with a tight budget.

May have made a mistake here - I bought the game on Matrix figuring from previous posts I'd seen it would help the devs more and I would get a steam key as well, but I did not see any key but the one for the installer and I'm a bit frustrated. Am I missing something or did I just purchase the wrong version?

Once you purchase on our site, you need to register your copy through the My Page at the top of the site. Note that if you were logged into your site account when you purchased, that gets done automatically at the time of purchase. Once it's registered on your My Page, there's a button there that allows you to request a free Steam key. Takes about a second or two, the page reloads and you'll have the key you can use to activate the game on Steam.

I didn't actually make an account when I bought it, but I managed to figure that part out. Thanks!

In case it helps anyone else, I started on the Matrix version, but just requested my Steam key and was able to copy my saved game over ([Rtw3 Folder]/Save/Game1 to [Steam folder]/steamapps/common/Rule the Waves 3/Save/Game1) and it seemed to load fine.

I'm not sure of the full list of countries that Matrix ships to - you could setup an order for another of their physical game products and check to see if shipping to Japan is an option (just cancel the order before you verify it...). Thank you! I will buy it if it is possible to import! I was able to purchase a physical copy from Japan! matrix seems to be able to ship to quite a few countries.

Always good to hear some progress. BTW, since it is on steam, is there any possibility that a workshop could be opened, like other Matrix/Slitherine games (such as CMO, Panzer Crops and so on)? We have no plans at the moment for a workshop, but it might be something we could look at in the future. I personally am a big fan of Steam Workshop, it adds value and re-playability to games... What does workshop mean in this context?

How does purchasing and downloading from Matrix work? Is it like purchasing it from the NWS store where we can download and install the game anywhere on our system or does Matrix have its own library and update system like Steam? Thinking in terms of modding game files. In terms of directories it is installed to, does this vary between the matrix version and the Steam version?
In terms of either version, can you copy all the files to a different directory and the game still run (from that directory)? This was possible in RTW2 and affected how I made my mod manager for that game. if it isn't possible in RTW3, then i will have to architect my mod manager differently (assuming I write one, which I probably will).

What does workshop mean in this context? Too early for conjecture TBH, but mostly I would think make it easier to use mods with the game...

I installed my copy of RtW3 from Matrix is a completely different directory than the one it suggested and works/connects to Matrix to look for updates fine. It wanted to install it under a Matrix subfolder under program files but i put it in a dedicated Rule the Waves folder
