I have created a thread to discuss the true costs of warships. From the dreadnought era to modern 21st century. Let's discuss how the true, historical costs of warships changed in the 19th century to the modern era. What caused the changes, what kinds of changes and the financing of the modern warship? Please restrict the discussion to actual facts.

Quite a complex subject due to exchange rates and inflation.
For example, the UK uses RPI (retail price index) and CPI (consumer price index).
Comparisons of modern and C19 expenditure and value is complicated as the modern states spend a significant proportion of revenue as %GDP on what can be termed welfare which is not such a significant factor in the C19.
I have a lot of data for the 1890 - 1920 period (or see In Defence of Naval Supremacy by Jon Sumida).

I have Sumida's book also "The Battleship Builders" is good and of course, D. K. Brown's series. Arthur Marder's five volumes; From the Dreadnought to Scapa Flow is probably the most complete.
