Do shore batteries increase # of minefields along that coast? (I think I remember that from RTW 2.) If yes, is any size SB as good as any other?

Back on the topic, here is a 5in battery sinking a DD and wounding another so that ships can finish it off. Yay!

This is the scene where the minefield that the artillerymen worked so hard to place finishes off the CA. Two DDs were sunk by mines in this battle, one CA was hit by a 6in battery when it was slowed by a mine and sunk.

It's always rewarding to see those mines doing some work

The 11 inch guns on Oscarborg fortress were backed up by several 6inch batteries on and across the fjord, so not quite denied.

Due to mindlessly clicking the wrong button, didn't get a shot from the battle, but in 1909 a mine from a shore battery was sufficient to sink a new-ish Russian BB. Attachments:

I've had my invasion transports run directly into a shore battery. It managed to sink 6 before I could put it down

Outside of tactical battles I use 2 of 8" batteries and a 20 plane airbase as my standard coastal defense. It is probably limiting how much money I get from the colony though. The airbase can be running 4 of Patrol planes and 4 of Medium bombers.
When an invade has landed unlike coastal forts the number of planes present can be changed quickly. 4 Pat and 16 MB. If the war has a larger number of enemy subs troubling my merchants I'll run more PAT and less MDM.
Also... even if a land invasion is underway you can still increase the size of the airbase. A size 40 airbase in an invasion might have 12 floatplanes (no space used), 8 Patrol planes, 16 MDM and then either 16 MDM or 16 torp/dive.
One thing about the coastal battery and airbases is that the invasions cue "support of invasion" battles which start closer to that coastal. Coastal medium bombers can do alot of work.
>>>
Places I throw down the mighty 12" guns in turret include:
Iceland = for any non-European player as this means suppressing the enemy directly Burma = or your oil center Dijbouti or Aden = control of the south end of the Red Sea Eygpt = for the Suez Canal
>>>
In my Italy game with the middle budget there is no way I can openly challenge big fleets around the world. I can though build extra 8" and 6" guns. The hope is increase the odds that my land fighting will break up the invasion.
>>>
The most vicious coastal airbase fighting is in Northeast Asia. Yellow Sea, Bohai Sea, Korea Bay area.
There is that short range curve of land with Weihaiwei, Port Arthur and IIRC Dali. Possibly also the Korean. Longer range medium bombers from ALL those bases can reach in and touch ships in the center.
In the missile age I would defend the area with 1-2 CA(G) and ~ 6 DD. All they had to do was find the enemy. From there the perhaps 100 MDM would fly in and launch missile salvos. Imagine being an invasion force when 100+ Anti-ship missiles come flying at you.

Can shore batteries and airbases be permantly destroyed in a tactical battle? I've lost count of how many times I've destroyed the same Russian 9" battery on Sakhalin. Does destroying them give any strategic advantage?
Not really on topic but seemed the best place for this

Does destroying them give any strategic advantage? Not really on topic but seemed the best place for this I believe there is a cost to rebuild them and it takes a few turns as well - so the AI or player is losing money and has weaker defenses while this is occurring. In my experience though, they are always rebuilt.
