Can confirm that launcher issues (Matrix launcher by the look of it - it gets stuck loading and hangs) won't function, making it impossible for me to pay RtW3 on my laptop. I've got a desktop I can run it on, so it's not a hard block for me, but an option to play it without the launcher, given the launcher flat-out prevents the game from running, might be something to consider. If this laptop was the only system I had, then I would have been unable to play the game at all, for at least a period of six months. Edit: Also, the only beta available on Steam did have the launcher enabled, and had the same issues as the non-beta version of the game, so no joy there. Edit 2 (as I look back over the thread): I messaged Maximki on two occasions and didn't get a response, so tried that avenue as well. axe99 Most Matrix staff are away for the holiday season right now, but I will make certain Maximki sees your message. Cheers William To clarify, the messages were sent in August and October. Also, no worries/pressure on my end - I had been looking forward to RtW3 being my "travel game" for a week away, but I've still got access to it the vast majority of the time - but it may well be worth looking into as other customers like endwerk may not be so lucky. I hope you and the rest of NWS have a Happy Holidays, and that the New Year is good to you all

Have replayed this report to Matrix, thanks endwerk . If you can/wish to, please send a PM to maximki (he is a Slitherine/Matrix producer) here on these forums and let him know your email address, as he is looking into the launcher issues and your input could be a big help. Edit: Opt in to/try out the latest RTW3 beta on Steam, it should not have the launcher enabled. This is weird, I swore I had, but it looks like I haven't, so I'll PM them again. Might have had a brain explosion. Sorry for the delay, getting smashed at work.

As an aside, I'm back from travelling now, and can confirm the Launcher works fine on the desktop - it's just the laptop where it hangs indefinitely and the game can't be started (Both running Windows 11).

Hello enwerk and axe99, I'm one of the Assistant Producers at Matrix Games working on RTW3. We're currently investigating this launcher issue. Could you please provide your email and be willing to collaborate with our team to help investigate the issue? Hi Maximki, and of course I'll send you my email over PM if that's alright, don't want it on the internet for bots to trawl - will do that now. I'm travelling at the moment, so might not be able to respond right away, but will do what I can now, and not travelling from the 20th and very able to support then (and will have two machines, the desktop and this laptop, that may be helpful to rule out things as well).

Have reported this to Matrix, they are looking into it. Just an FYI, they had already made some adjustments that seemed to help with this sort of issue, but it seems that it did not fix all possible cases... Thank you very much for looking into it I'd been deliberately holding off to play it on the laptop while travelling, hence it not coming up earlier (runs on desktop just fine). In case it helps, it's a Win 11 (22621.2134) machine. Device specs (copied from Windows settings 'About'): Device name MSI Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1240P 1.70 GHz Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable) Device ID AFED4A2E-3953-4D05-BB80-2256815D2292 Product ID 00342-22081-54227-AAOEM System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

I'm having this issue as well - even the RTW3 executable in the appropriate steams fires up the launcher and freezes going through that. Deffo keen for it to be sorted at some stage - will have to delay my next run of RtW3 until then, much sadness.

I just finished my first run as Britain, and in my war with Germany in 1969, aircraft were brutal, both for and against me. SAMs definitely did a lot of damage, but in one engagement my last remaining strike carrier (60K-odd displacement, 100 aircraft - it had an armoured deck which I was testing to see if it helped with damage resistance*) hammered the opposition with repeated strikes. In the opening engagement of the war I'd lost my main cruisers and a number of destroyers (and one of my two large carriers - mostly to enemy aircraft), and had to lean heavily on my carriers (a second large carrier was commissioned a few months into the war, thankfully) to carry me through. Air damage is a bit random - some engagements aircraft are brutal, others they're less effective - but I feel this isn't implausible. I'm not suggesting there isn't room for improvement (and the tweaks to have battle start further apart will be most welcome) but I didn't feel there were any great issues with late-game aircraft in my playthrough. Noting it's just one playthrough so may not be representative. Also, given my experience with enemy aircraft, Heavy CAPs are good! * One missile from an aircraft on its sister started a fire that sank it - so that's the last post-1940s armoured carrier I'll build for a while! Can you say anything more about the aircraft that managed to do a lot of damage? Sorry for the delay in replying, had a crazy run with work and a bit off with the pixies. Afraid I can't say too much beyond both missiles and bombs could be be very effective (but could also have very limited effect - again the relatively wide statistical distribution of possible outcomes from air attacks). Once I started getting hammered by aircraft I switched to heavy CAPs, and I almost always escorted my bombers/attack aircraft to increase their chance of getting through (and the AI seemed to generally do the same.

I just finished my first playthrough and really enjoyed it - I have no doubt I'll be playing a lot of RtW3 between now and RtW4 Most of the new changes I was able to understand quite easily, but one thing that I found difficult was getting an understanding of how armour interacted with missiles. If anyone has any info, I'd be all ears (eyes?), and it might be an idea (if Fredrik agreed of course) to include some in-game information as to the impact of armour on potential missile penetration.

Nathan Okun knows a thing or two about armour In case useful, some rough figures of merit from the things I've read over the years - my "notes" tab on armour is pretty limited, but if it's of interest to anyone PM me and I can send a link. My reading on armour is limited (I haven't read much Okun, and all of that was before I started taking notes) but these figures of merit give a rough idea of the relative strength of different armour types in a more digestible format than the linked pages (not for you William, but for others) - note of course that it is a rough figure, and different armour was good for different things (for example, while face-hardened armour was used on belts, it wasn't (at least generally) used on horizontal surfaces like decks or turret roofs because (to quote "The Battleship Builders" by Buxton and Johnston) "face-hardened armour did not work well under highly oblique impact - it could inhibit the ricochet of broken projectiles, and could crack through and throw large armour pieces out of its back even if the projectile bounced off". There were also different optimal thicknesses in terms of the hardened proportion of face hardened armour for different situations/shell types. In terms of interpreting the figures of merit, my understanding is they can be compared in a simple percentage sense - so 1930s face hardened armour with a figure of merit of 3.47 is about 36% better than original Krupp face hardened armour (with a figure of merit of 2.55).

I'd definitely be a fan of clarification on armour (some kind of "original Krupp equivalent rating" for example - "original being important, given that Krupp-type armour improved even before WW1 (outside of Germany) and everywhere after WW1. Using "Figure of Merit" could be one way of approaching it that uses nomenclature used elsewhere for rating armour strength - but this might be potentially confusing given it uses wrought iron as a base.

Great thoughts Director Two others (assuming I haven't misunderstood - which may have happened): - In the division editor window, when setting role, there's no "none" option for role, so once a role is set, I couldn't remove it (so if I wanted a no-role division had to dissolve and re-form). - In the division editor window, it would be nice if I could re-order divisions. I was experimenting with moving ships around (in no small part because of point 1 in the OP) and dissolved the 2nd Battle Division and reformed it, but then the 2nd Battle Division was underneath the 5th Battle Division in the list. It presumably has no influence on gameplay, but it might be nice if we could re-order the divisions in the division editor window. I'd like to emphasise that these are tiny, tiny things, and I'm having an absolute blast with the game

That's wonderful - many thanks @jwsmith Edit: Added this in before my session today, and it looks really, really nice Setting the normal wood tones as the game's default might be something to think about?
