I found an analysis of the naval situation that appeared in April 1898 in an Australian newspaper quite interesting. trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/61293571It is assumed that the Spanish fleet would operate from Havana, in order to threaten US merchant traffic and coastal cities. Reference is also made to the use of homing pigeons to send sighting news from scout ships to land.

Also note, in the article on the side, a hint to the teleprinter and to the radio, dismissively defined as "Macaroni's invention".

I will be very interested to hear your opinion about that article. For my part I was thinking of setting up an SAI campaign in the Caribbean based on that war, but moving it a few years in time, so as to have the radio and also imagining that there was a greater balance between the naval forces.

Great and thanks for supplying the link. I have seen this before, but haven't read it. I am going to download and convert to PDF. If you want a copy, I will post it. Another good source is Internet Archive - archive.org/index.phpSearch text for Spanish-American War. Many of the books are downloadable in many formats.

Thank you oldpoop and other contributors for all these resources going back to page 1. Some of the links are inactive but plenty to keep busy. I've been trying to find information on the early raids against Japan after Pearl Harbor and I came upon this website.....I'm guessing this has been previously posted and if so I apologize. www.history.navy.mil/browse-by-topic/wars-conflicts-and-operations/world-war-ii/1942/early-raids.htmlThere is a downloadable pdf file on the upper right. I have browsed through it and it has interesting pictures and maps. Also I wonder if there are any books specific to these early raids? Are there any websites or books that you may know of that lists the names of KIA of these raids? For example in the conclusion to the attack on Rabaul the pdf file states...Our losses: Two fighter planes; one pilot saved...but does not name the pilot that is presumed KIA. Thank you.

I am glad you like the archives and websites. I will try to go through and delete those that are not valid any more. If you point out the ones that are not good, I will research or delete them. We want these to be accurate and safe. Another website to look at is Internet Archive. The last entry in the search area is archived web sites and many older sites are there. Fischer-Tropisch Archive of Naval Mission to Japan is located there.

For some reason some of the links came up 404 error but if I waited a little longer they redirected. Sorry for the confusion.

The first entry is the USAF Air University website. They changed everything, so here is the website - www.airuniversity.af.edu/Library/ You will have to use the menu at the top to search for Publications. I can't find the second so sorry.
