Paul has pretty much explained correctly and you can edit the Classes.cfg file to add ships as desired so that they show up in the drop-down menu for adding ships in the Scenario Editor. Like *.qbf files it is essential that syntax, spelling and punctuation need to be correct for the added ships to appear. It is not essential to edit the Classes.cfg to use the scenario or campaign editor but doing so can ease the creative process. Best to save the stock Classes.cfg someplace safe since the game needs a valid version to run. Errors in this file can result in errors or ships not appearing when a scenario is run.

Hello together,
I'm new here, bought SAI with Campaign Generator 3 weeks ago and, inspired by some threads on this Forum, started looking into the ship Editor.
Looking a bit over the differnt ships I'm confused how the "protected cruiser" Checkbox works. I mean I'm familiar with concept of the protected cruiser (armoured deck below waterline to protect vitals, but not belt armour).
That beeing said I guess it should apply to all ships with that particular armour scheme, however it seems to be used only on ships beeing called "protected cruisers" as opposed to early light cruiser with the same armour scheme.
What is also strange is that ships that have are protected cruiser have a greater Zero value for belt armour, despite protected cruiser per Definition lack belt armour. I suppose that's to represent the vertical protection the sloped part of the deck offers, but could someone please confirm or correct me?
I'm sorry if this been answered before but I couldn't find any Explanation on the Manual or here on the Forum.
Regards, Krawa

Regards, Krawa This is a good question and I can understand the confusion. * When the protected cruiser checkbox is checked, some aspects of the damage and penetration effetcs in the simulation will be changed to treat the ship as without belt armour.
* The B value for a protected cruiser is the thickness of the sloping part of the deck.
Admittedly, protected cruisers were not modeled perfectly in SAI, but it was improved in SAI RTW and will be still better simulated in RTW, where there will be three different armour schemes.
Some ships that technically were protected cruisers but are always described as "light cruisers", like for example the Emden, should really have been classed as protected cruisers in SAI.

Hello Frederik,
thank you very much for the clarification.
* The B value for a protected cruiser is the thickness of the sloping part of the deck.
With thickness do you mean actual thickness or line of sight armour?

Krawa

The thickness as given, not line of sight.
