Thanks Randomizer. You know what they say you are your worst critic. Your kinds words are appreciated.
On the topic of an easy win, I think it is very hard to win as the Russians. Here are my reasons.
Your OP are so limited to start and they seem to decrease when you do poorly. This severly hampers any and all operations. Some turns, I was just able to train a division and lay a limited minefiled. If I wanted to conduct any raids or a fleet deployment, I would need to save for 2-3 weeks to do so. Often times, the raid was fruitless so the OP seemed wasted. In reality they were not as it is a big ocean out there. When you sail for 10-12 hours and see nothing, then all of a sudden a ship pops up, the exciement of that moment filled with questions like what kind of ship, should I get ready for battle, what about speed are one of the truly great moments of this game.
Repair is also hadled well for the Russians. At one point all BB, CA, CL were in need of repair and I was not able to repair them quckly. My fleet deployments were mainly DD patrols and minelaying missions. Granted, this was fun too as I was rewarded with the sinking of 3 CL from mines alone. Perhaps, I relied too much on the large units and not enough on the little guys.
Also, well done were the messages of doom I called them. Like, The RR to PA was cut, Dalny has fallen, and PA is under siege. This really added to the tenseness and I made a rash decision to raid Hakodate with 2 of my best units and lost them. I had not forgotten about that powerful IJN cruiser division, I was just hoping to avoid them. in reality this was an error too as I arrived in daylight plain to see to bombard Japan. I should have arrived under the cover of darkness. Speaking of darkness, I had a BB ,CL, and DD all run aground at PA leaving in the dark. I should have only left in the day. I never really figured this out until the end.
All in all a learning expirence.
