I love hearing band folks commiserating. I was lower-brass, played one that started out with a grand and fast run, though I don't think it was technically a march. Lord Mountbatten or Lord Marlborough's suite, something-or-other? I'll look for it...

Rolling Thunder still makes me break out in a sweat and I haven't played the Tuba for over 20 years. Marches are normally in 2/4 time but that one is conducted in cut time (one beat per bar) so its easy for band leaders to get sadistic with it.

I always think in my head of it being said as a Giant Truck Rally announcer would. "RRRRRRRoooooooooooooooliiiiiiiiiiing THUNnnnnnnndaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrr!" Hi jeb94 - another tuba player here. Went on to be a band director. Never had the courage (or sadism) to try that one.

Great, I love that theme music. Here is my favorite - www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8cARpn37IkOur high school band played this coming out of the school towards the football field on Friday nights with the stands full. My parents said they could hear us all the way in and we rattled the glass windows. It was just great. Here is the other one we played, I love this stuff. www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1AbiTqtvu8I also love the theme from 633 Squadron

Was also played during my swearing in ceremony in 2012. Official traditional march of several units, including the Panzerbrigade 21.

Husky - good to hear from you! I absolutely love that march! Here's one that isn't traditional, isn't old and isn't used by any military. It's an early John Williams work and, I think, one of his all-time best. From the movie 'Midway' - www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXAOpLsCW5Q. I love the woodwind 'hornpipe' in the middle, and the basic theme has a real 'swing' to it, courtesy of some powerful syncopated hits - reminiscent of '1941'. And three that are 'sort of' paired up: Julius Fucik's most-recognizable-march-ever, 'Entry of the Gladiators', also known as 'Thunder and Blazes': www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0105ht0yoc(This version is crazy amazing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAJ66ZSQ4b4)Sousa's 'The Gladiators' - www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGsRw_EzrmwAnd 'The Gladiator's Farewell' by our old friend, HL Blankenburg, performed by a Soviet Military Band playing for their lives: www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0XjtjBmi6IOne more from Julius Fucik, just because he's fantastic - 'Florentiner', which always sounds to me like an Italian operetta: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XD4R5x4DfBw&start_radio=1&list=RDXD4R5x4DfBwIf you don't know this one, you're in for a treat. I love the nattering high brass (the nagging wife) answered by the low brass ('Yes dear').

All of these have been fantastic, but I have a suggestion that I fancy will top them all: a perfect theme song for Rule the Waves II. The tune is one of those immortal melodies which has been set to a thousand different lyrics over the years, but the original words, 'Tramp, tramp, tramp the buoys are marching...' refer to the rapid advance of naval buoy technology during the Twentieth century.

Excellent; The Prisoner's Song by Fleet written for the prisoners at Andersonville Prison. I enjoy Civil War music. I especially love the music from Cold Mountain.
