Been playing with this for a few days. So far great! A couple questions: 1) looks like Air to Air is not handled on the computer, correct? 2) Is is possible to conduct air attacks on carriers using the CCS? Carriers are not available when I load or create a scenario.
Thanks!

Dave,
Welcome aboard, great to see you here!
Answers to your questions:
1) In the 'MISC' tab in the BE version of the CCS you will find a 'AIR-TO-AIR CALCULATOR' which does calculate losses for air-to-sir attacks. However, the CCS itself does not track actual aircraft so that tool is mostly useful to quickly calculate aircraft losses so the player can record them (same thing goes for the 'AA Fire Calculator' in that same section).
2) Yes - if a carrier is included in a scenario then it certainly can be attacked with guns/bombs/torpedoes just like any other vessel can be.
The BE expansion does not ship with any of the BE scenarios entered into the CCS, but it is very easy to create scenarios using the 'Scenario Editor' tool included; I would be happy to post here any such scenarios that players create (as a matter of fact, one player very recently stated he would be creating some and sending them over to me).
If you do not see the calculators I mention above then you most likely are using the BZ version of the CCS. Make sure you have properly installed the 'Battleships Eclipsed' expansion and thus the CCS version would be the BE one.
Thanks!

I have run the BE installer and only have the BZ CCS icon. There is no "Misc" tab on that one. Is there another way to start up the later version?

OK. Have the CCS running. Question- where is the attacker's ATA value? I see ATA defense on the charts. The CCS looks like it is only whole numbers, not fractions.

All the data for the calculator is directly pulled from the aircraft data shown in the "BE-DataTable-Aircraft.pdf" file.
The CCS has the following data that you will need to manually input for an aerial combat:
1) ATA Factor: This is the 'AA Factor' value for the attacking aircraft as shown on the aircraft data table. Enter the listed AA Factor for the attacking aircraft type here (this will always be a whole number). 2) # of Attackers: Select the number of aircraft your side is attacking with. 3) # of Targets: Select the number of enemy aircraft you are attacking (i.e. the number of aircraft on the enemy side). 4) Target ATA: Select the 'ATA Defense Value' (from the data table) for the target aircraft (this will be a decimal value, and will vary depending upon the load the aircraft is carrying). 5) Survival Roll: Select the appropriate 'Survival Roll' (from the data table) for the target aircraft.
Click the 'CALCULATE' button, it will then let you know how many of the target planes were destroyed and how many were damaged (you record aircraft losses/damage manually since CCS does not track aircraft numbers).
Repeat the above process for the 'other' side/enemy side of the aerial combat (and remember to not subtract losses from either side until the turn is over, as combat is simultaneous).
Hope the above explains the process clearly...thanks.

Okay the only thing that needs to be added and it is kinda major for Carriers. In the Air to surface interface there should be a box to check to indicate that the target has planes onboard and in fueling/rearming. Just a few lines of code so that it can come to the correct solution. Way it is you have to manually add it on paper and will come to incorrect outcomes.

The code for the BZ/DR CCS was written about 8 years ago now, and the rather proprietary tools used to code and compile it no longer function under modern OS or drivers; plus frankly the run-time code produced is starting to get a bit 'quirky' due to changes in current video drivers/DirectX and 64-bit OS differences. While I would love to add some corrected/new bits to it, it would mean translating it to an entirely new code-set and a new GUI system, which is no trivial matter and unfortunately would require more than my currently available spare time.
Thanks.

Can carriers launch when they are listing?

Can carriers launch when they are listing? Below is the official errata for launching/recovering aircraft from a carrier with a list:
"If a carrier has a Level 1 list it can launch and recover aircraft at 1/2 the normal rates (round fractions down); a carrier with a Level 2 or Level 3 list cannot launch nor recover any aircraft."
Thanks.

Hi once again. I've just studied my CSS in details and I found carriers and Air to Air combat calculator so probably I have BE! Thank You Darek

Darek,
Good to hear! The Wargame Vault version does not require an installer, so no need for a serial number or the like, and since the zip has all the updated files (including BE) just unzip the files to your hard-drive (which you obviously did).
Thanks.
