I don't know what the various ranges in RTW equate to in actual miles but I imagine that they translate to around a 5,000 miles difference in range. I doubt you could achieve that additional range with oil storage in bulges.
However, in WW2 bulges were added to some smaller ships to reduce the top weight effects of the huge number of AA guns, new ASW equipment and electronics that were being slapped onto a ship every time it returned to a shipyard. Adding bulges to allow for the installation of additional modern equipment might be worth the speed reductions they entail.

In Nam, a few MiGs were shot down with Zuni rockets by helo pilots. At least one pilot got a CMH for this.
In combat, the book goes out the window. I'll do what it takes to win, because second place is a marble marker.
This would be hard to abstract in, maybe the event:
Help Pilot wins CMH for shooting down a Fighter while on a SAR flight.
(Autocorrect is my enema)

Weapons are not always used as intended.

LCDR. Teddy Swartz received a Silver Star for the action. That same rocket, was responsible for the serious fire on board the USS Forrestal and the Enterprise. At least 161 men were lost in both of those incidences. The Late John McCain was in his A4 and had to walk along the wing and jump off to avoid being killed. A lady I was dating lost her father in the Enterprise incident.
