Ah. A Target-Rich environment, I believe they call it. Or a 'Friendly-poor-and-shrinking-by-the-minute' environment. Your mileage may vary. I suppose there's no chance that a massive Italian Air Force will crush the invader beneath waves of explosive? Well, it is dicey. With Dalmatia being American, the Adriatic is just as dangerous to me as to them. You'll note I have not yet invested in carriers, figuring my land bases could capably do the trick- in fact, the one 'starter' carrier I have, being unarmored, I put into mothballs for the duration of hostilities. As it happens this combat at the straits I avoided, and bad weather ensured there were no casualties to either side. The next month however an Unexpected Action forced my hand, and it was a bad hand to have forced. 2 1/2 hours before dusk I was defending a convoy North of Crete, presumably trying to sneak through to Rhodes. I had 6 BBs and 5 BCs, of an experimental design (honestly, there's so much testing everything is experimental). The logic behind these goes thus; If one wants All Forward weight advantages, one is limited as to the firepower that can be brought to bear, but with Magazine Box you also then have weight left over. So long as I have secondary directors I figured I would see if pushing secondaries to the absurd would pay dividends. Had I built the Romas first I would have built the Lepantos to a different design, but I did not imagine my post-war 1930s economy would permit me to build such a fleet. Super Large fleets at work no doubt. The month after off Crete that day I utilized the high uniform speed of my fleet (29+ knots) and, guessing blindly at my spotting options, managed to pick correctly, and I was able to rush the American scouting group, sinking a BC, CV, CVL, and numerous Cls and DDs, for the loss of 2 DDs and, after a long tedious attempt to get back to port, 1 BC. A stunning victory, as I heavily damaged at least 5 other BBs and BCs as night fell. I leapt into the VP lead with over 20,000 points. ...and then France entered the war.

Saving weight on putting all three centreline turrets at the front to then expend it putting six Large Pre - Positioned Scuttling Charges on the wings - genius!

There isn't a great story to share here, more of a milestone to mark. This is my latest test game, and it had gone pretty well I'd say. Now there was a day when in RTW you just didn't fear America. That day is gone. The USA not only cleaned my clock, but with the staying power to invade and take 6 territories- after I beat off 2 other invasion attempts. The IJN was ground down to a pulp. All my modern destroyers, all my carriers, most my cruisers, and of course those 6 marine invasions over-running and capturing/destroying well over 400 aircraft. If not for this German-brokered peace Japan was not going to stop them. I will Always think twice now before picking a fight with the USA in RTW.

You still did better than the actual IJN in WW2, which may not be much comfort but is in fact a solid achievement.
I circled back and played a game of RtW1 as the US (I like the USAvCSA custom). Sometime in the 1940s I realized I was building 9 capital ships (all of 52,000 tons), 4 CAs and some CLs at the same time, while keeping up 30+ capital ships, a couple of dozen cruisers and around 140 DDs - IN PEACETIME. The US economy can be absotively, posilutely terrifying.

I just had an amusing occurrence in a test game. 1926 Japan, allied with Germany and the Soviet Union I am thinking about a war with England and allowing tension to rise. I get the random event Soviet Spy caught, but given tensions are 4 with them I decide I don't want to risk the alliance so I just take the prestige hit. The very next month, "Our Security Arrangement with the Soviet Union has expired." I chuckled, rotten luck and wondering how many spies the Soviets had to pull out from their apparently compromised intelligence operation. Well that war won't be quite as easy, but I still have Germany, so we'll go ahead and ramp tensions again. The very next month; "Our Security Arrangement with Germany has expired." I've been swindled!

As requested, these are the fleets for my game as Germany which faced 35 American CVs in the North Sea. The war with America mercifully ended after about 11 months, and all things considered my losses were "manageable". Though tell that to the aircraft pilots and destroyer crews. In this pic I have just had a war with Japan start in 1969 which I will probably not see out. America has replaced its carrier losses and is adding 3 more for good measure. I have their most common type highlighted below. The game has gone quite well with early victories affording me a good economy. Here is the map and my German possessions, which includes Panama. Colonial independence has taken away a few possessions in the South Pacific, and a revolution cost me one in Africa. This is the "best" battle against the Americans. In the whole war I figure I lost 25 destroyers, 2 BBs, 5 or 6 CLs and 1500 aircraft. The war ended with "large concessions", which amounted to 4 VPs. Due to my earlier victories the Eastern Aleutians were the only thing I could have taken, and I elected to not extend my zones of responsibility and take the economy boost.

"DlC version" "Copy game" button. What sorcery is this? He's clearly a witch this Halloween.
Anyways, the secret is that in this version you need to provide a delicatessen with cheese, because after all the Delicatessen Lacks Cheese. I know, it's a very exciting expansion to the game.

AFAIK with such a heavy secondaries, all it takes is a single flash fire to send a whole ship down instantly. Thats why I never go for secondaries above 6in, unless I want it to be really heavy (and properly armored).
