Had a destroyer get torpedoed by the destroyer next to it. I was ready to fume but not only did they manage to make it back to port but their damage control was so good that they didn't even need a month for repairs. This was in 1906 so it's not even like damage control was advanced or the destroyer was big.

Well... Another allied (USA) admiral got sacked.
In a previous game my ally (GB) sacked their admiral.
Either my allies are consistently incompetent, or I'm playing way too aggressively for the game to handle. This might warrant some further inquiry...

Boy, this world REALLY didn't like the Great War of 1929-1933.
(see treaty length)

Okay, I'm calling it incompetence... But seriously, what is going on in the political and defense halls of the various nations???
War ends in victory and my ally France dismisses their admiral on the next turn.
Few months later, my ally USA sacks another admiral...
Also note the continued British increases funding to keep pre-emience events. Its been firing pretty much non-stop for a good long time now... This isn't going to end well...

Sadly their admirals are mortals, not immortal god-admirals of mankind.

I damn near spilled my beer when I saw this. Its been a long time since I have lost a war but I have never seen anything like this. Ceding 6 brand new capitol ships (the BB are Yamato facsimile 70KTon with 9x17q0 and the BC are Richelieu 30Kton with 8x14q1) to the French and Germans. Whenever I have been given the opportunity to acquire ships its always been just a single one, not 6. Not to mention I had to turn over all of French Indochina after conquering it all before the Germans and their submarines got involved.

If you smash the enemy, you may MAYBE get a single ship, but most likely none at all. When you lose a war, you lose almost your whole navy. Its also one of the reasons why I spend at least 2 times more time reading the forum than actually playing the game.

Might I suggest a solution to your struggle? Mods.

I was bored as France so picked a fight with Japan despite the distance. Was winning heftily until Italy jumped in on their side. Points reset. I rush back to the Mediterranean and dominate against Italy in turn. Then A-H joins the fight on their side, points reset.
Then, 2 months later, with no fleet battles, just my subs attacking, A-H sues for peace, and I get reparations - from Italy. Okay then! I guess it still worked out in the end.

Sorry if a story along these lines has been posted.
The year is 1909. Russia is currently recovering from a war against France that spiraled into an unmitigated disaster once Austro-Hungary joined in. The Czar pushed for a peace, accepting harsh terms including a prohibition on any new ships larger than 10,000 tons standard displacement.
A certain naval architect and naval treaty loophole-finder-at-large discovers that the treaty only prohibits laying down the keel of new ships larger than the treaty limit and hatches a plan.
Several Russian pre-dreadnoughts are stripped to the keel and rebuilt to be somewhat passable battlecruisers, then re-christened with their former names after the, erm, "extensive refit."
International observers are fuming, while the Russian Admiralty laughs all the way to the bank whilst embarking on a major program of naval revitalization.

Second story.
After a series of short-sighted international policy mis-steps, Russia goes to war with Japan with but a single armored cruiser on the Kamchatka station, nearly a decade from her last refit.
The cruiser makes the smart decision of remaining in port for most of the war, and letting the veritable armada of Russian submarine torpedo vessels handle the real warfighting.
However, the Japanese navy, whilst patrolling Russian territorial waters with nary a shot fired from a shore battery to dissuade them, occassionally mistakes passing merchants for the Russian Navy's full force and flees for their lives.
Or, at least, that's how I'd explain the fact that the Japanese navy has declined battle against a non-existent enemy force at least three times in the span of 6 months.

My game as France having taken all of Italy's colonies, Italy is Facist... and we are on something like Italian War #7 or #8. True to form they keep expecting we won't expect them to attack through the narrow France-Italy border.
Repariations for the war, with no possible colonies left, continues to push my France economy up.
I've tried getting Germany into the war but the Italians are pretty quick to give up when the 1 or 2 capital ships they built for this war have gotten sunk.

Are you still thinking 2" guns are useless? :-)

Started a new game as Germany. Usually I build the legacy fleet with B type ships out of England for the larger docks (up to 16,000 tons) and guns 12in q-1. Even building them as 15,500 tons to leave room for 500 tons of torpedo bulges and still qualify for CVL conversions mid game. This time decided to stay true to Germany with its smaller 14,000 ton yard and smaller 11 inch q-1 guns.
About a year in the follow happened: = free +1,000 tons to yard = free +500 tons to yard = Paid and completed +2,000 tons to yard and = Stole the British 13 inch q-2 gun design!
So apparently we are now competitive for designing the 2nd generation pre-dreadnoughts

Personally, I would take the 11" Q-1 guns over the 13" Q-2 guns, but to each their own.
