Just out of curiosity (I don't have the game), could you post the Russian CV designs that were sunk? 4 CVs in Far East, that's interesting. Though not uncommon, I've also seen tortugapower engage a crazy amount of Russian BBs and BCs in his playthrough.

Thanks. Strange, number of aircraft and catapults is not showing. A bug? Or due to fog of war, because you've made a screenshot outside of battle? Mainly wanted to know their a/c capacity.

Also, the first one is named Lennigrad (instead of Leningrad I assume?).

...and that was just a convoy defense mission. Well, it was all about Malta (which I had seized some 10 years earlier from the Brits), so this is probably not that surprising.
Oh, and my CVLs were just conversions from CAs, two of these were even from the legacy fleet and are now about 40 years old. Italy in turn is now down to 3 BBs and 3 BCs, so they are now only on par to my Mediterranean detachment consisting of older (and smaller) BBs. Also, the AA losses ratio gives at least a slight taste of turkey shooting.

I ended up just making my entire battleline 73,000 ton monsters with an all forward 12 16inch gun armament and capable of 30 knots
The USA late game just has so much budget that you can do whatever you want(especially when you get efficient shipbuilding in the 30’s)

When the USN decided to veer into the German Bight in 1968, I finally had that one, epic air-sea battle... well, not quite, or not the way I thought. My BB force first came in touch with their enemy counterparts NW of Texel. While they were basically finished off quickly thanks to superior 17" guns and a lot of air support, actually sinking them took quite a long time and a huge effort to the expense of main caliber ammo and the DD torpedo stores. With most of that gone and some damage to the machinery, it was pointless to chase on US carrier to the west, so near the evening, the fleet turned around towards Emdenm, while night was falling.
In the meantime, the US carrier force had NE of Helgoland and and their planes sortie for the airbases and Tönder and Emden, but not to much avail. And then, about noontime on the next day, the inevitable happend: North of the East Frisian Islands, the remaining carriers were spotted and immediately attacked, but the whole thing became comical when my BBs had no ammunition left, and the impressive 7.5 inch B armor of the Essex-class carriers proved its worth against the 6 inch secondaries, and additionally those ships could well outrun my rather clumsy post-dreadnoughts. Airstrikes did only little damage, and the airgroups on both sides were already heavily decimated.
So, finally I set my own carriers to chase them down (it was again getting dark) - and the final spell was USS Antietam running into a small minefield south of Borkum. So, in the end it all came down to guns again, but the overall result is still impressive - especially in the numbers of planes involved or shot down.
