Well, somebody had to post this! We've all got a lot to learn about RTW2, so let's get started.

Finished a playthrough that could've been called "55 years of Austro-Italian misunderstandings" because it was kind of a concatenation of wars between both. My best scorer of the whole playthrough might seem a run of the mill cruiser, in fact the only reason it got built was because nothing bigger could be built under treaty conditions (not that the treaty lasted a lot, even before this class was commissioned another war between us had erupted) and I was seriously lagging in the big gun department. Not that this solved anything about "Big guns"...but hey...talk about punching avobe his weight: Comissioned in 1933, part of a 3-strong class (one cancelled). Don't squint too hard, yes, that's 7'' belt - I used Magazine box on it. This boring design might seem "bland" and maybe too conventional but the list of it's victims include a 10x9'' italian cruiser (surprised it in a night engagement with radar and blew it up of the water in pretty much the first volley), an assortment of CLs... and the big prize: One and only CV ever built by Italy, and a big one too. Comissioned 1943, sunk 1943, almanac listed it as able to carry 84 planes (!!!!!). Took a couple bombs during a carrier engagement in the afternoon, the subsequent night sweep by my BCs and CAs was a massacre, with radar making the hunt a wild one; my carriers sank nothing but put the hurt on several ships, so it was mostly cleanup. The night bounty rented no less than 1 BB and 3 BCs... But the big prize was the flattop, which turned out to be a contact revealed by radar and prosecuted by old good Maria Theresa. Turned out to be the big boy. You guess the rest. I don't know if it really bothered the italians too much but they spent a good lot of effort building these things by the last years: I'm left wondering if that is what they were building because they had nothing left to build anything bigger (between going through a revolution in 1948 that ended a 6 year war where they lost virtually everything bigger than a CL,losing everything they could lose through peace treaties, and the huge war reparations of no less than 5 wars, I'm guessing italian economy wasn't that buoyant)... or because they hated my cruiser with all their guts XD.

It's a shame that all that heavy, expensive belt armour on that heavy, expensive flattop didn't do it any good in the event!

My PreciousAnd I must give credit to the German AI for creating a eerily similar replica of it's namesake randomly

If I had one complaint against the AI it seems they do not put enough AA on it's ships.

I decided that for my first game I'd attempt to build improved versions of real ships. Unfortunately I had to stop by 1930 as my cruiser numbers were dwindling fast. However, in the year 1928 these beauties were released into the world - My first and only class of Battlecruisers. Though she may have lost her sister in the early '40s due to overwhelming British firepower, in her 42 year long career, Akagi herself has never lost a fight.

From the 1950s. Might be the an answer to the battleship retirement debate. And if not, naming a high-speed monitor after Rhode Island is at least fun. The other end of post-1950 battleship building in this context is a bit dull. I just sought out any way of fitting 20 inch guns, so I had to cut down speed. In this sense, it's not a particulary good design, so I'd rather put it this way: Nothing else was actually feasible. Oh yes, and I've quickly grown into affection towards all-forward layouts. It's just amazing how much armor this saves, and it doesn't trick you into zig-zagging just to have your stern guns fire as well, but you can just go straight after the enemy.

These aren't battle tested yet, however, I have high hopes for these little monsters. 6" gun DDs. The rate of fire penalty is only -10 and it also has two 5" secondaries to boot, just in case. Also extra DC storage gives them an ASW rating of "6".

For night engegament till radar directed fire 4" destroyers is better as it hits more often and penetrates light cruiser easily. In one of my battles 3 of these destroyers comletely demolished enemy 7200 tons cruiser with 3x3x6" guns in several minutes only by gunfire as all torpedoes missed.

I don't have access to dual mounts on DDs yet. Once I do, then I will probably go to lighter guns.

My PreciousHow did you get this one so fast? Box armor only? Short range? Cramped accomodation? No TDS?
