This Mod adds more historically inspired AI Battleship and Battlecruiser Templates from 1920 to the End of the Game. You should see the AI build ingame-equivalents to the Yamatos, N3 and G3s, Montanas and various other Ship Classes.
Installation: unzip the folder and put its contents in the data/IDes Folder. Overwrite if asked to. Dont forget to first backup the old folder if you wish to revert back in the future.
7/11/19: Replaced the ugly Linedrawing for Yamato and A-150. Should look better now.

Thank you Hipper, I was hoping you'd take this to Two.
I won't use it right away because I need to be testing exactly what the users use, but I will eventually.

Hi, thank you. I think the game also needs more pre-WWII french designs, and more AB Q XY designs. In my playthroughs the AI built mostly ACQY, or ACXY. AI also tends to build too fast BBs and too slow BC (BBs are usually about 24-25kts before 1930, and BCs about 26-27). In the end those BBs and BCs are almost the same... Also AI tends to build really stupid CL and CA designs between 1920 and 1940. CLs are close to DDs, 3 or 4 main guns in single turrets and CAs all have 10in guns (too big IMHO) and uses at least 12 barrels per ship. Also does the game still have the national capital ship design doctrines (UK fast ships with thin armour, Germany heavy armour with lower top speed)?

It *should*, though I can't say I see that very obviously. I agree however about your assessment of the designs the game presents. For now suffice to say we are aware of the ship designer's predilections and talking about it. *thumbs up*

I would also really like so see more French designs.
I don't think I've seen anything like the Courbet-class yet.

Does anyone have a report on this? I'm intrigued but after reading the description, I'm worried there is going to be nothing but super-battleships around by 1940.

I haven't run it yet, but for RTW1 it was quite rational.

Does anyone have a report on this? I'm intrigued but after reading the description, I'm worried there is going to be nothing but super-battleships around by 1940. 1935 Russia playthrough right now, nothing ridiculous so far. British have couple 40k ton N3 look-alikes, otherwise no one is doing anything more than what you'd expect in terms for size from a normal rtw2 games. In fact, Im glad to see a lot more 5 twin centerline or ABXY with both Double/Triple turret compared to an excessive amount of all forward designs I tend to see in normal RTW2 game. I'd say this is definitely a step up for making the AIs being more rational and diverse in their designs. Also worth noting that I got hit with a 16500 ton, 10in gun treaty and Japan(Who is seriously behind in BBs due to losing a earlier war to me) decided to build these slow, decently armored 16500 tonners with 3223 10in guns to bulk their battleline. Which I have never seen the AI do in any earlier games (though I also tend to oppose any treaty event when they pop up). Japan end up getting 4 of these pocket BBs(I feel they are more appropriate pocket BBs than Deutschland lol) out before the next war. These things tend to be surprisingly good, lobbing shells that set my BBs on fire and getting belt-edge pens. While these ships are no match for my 36000 ton BBs and are eventually all sunk over several battles, they actually were able to damage some of my line BBs and caused their loss later.(Most notably jamming the rudder of one of my BBs in a line battle, and also scoring multiple belt edge pen on one of my older dreads, slowing it down enough for torpedos.) Edit: Okay the British just laid down a 62k ton ship, and Germany is working on a 52k ton one. But the other majors are still sticking to 40k~ ships. Also Germany is laying down 40k ships again after the 52k tonner is laid down. Edit 2: Played into the early 1941, things are looking quite interesting. UK built two 67.5K monster that is basically yamato, retained an old 1928 Nelson clone, and a treaty pocket battleship similar to the Japanese ones I described above. It scrapped most of its other BBs, and begin spamming CAs and is also building two 40k ton BCs due in 1942. Germany did not go as big as UK, after 3 52k ton BC with 2x4 16in gun and 31 knots, they went back to 45~k slower BBs, but is now also building two 65K BC that I don't yet have details on. AH built a single 67k Yamato clone with worse specification than the British one, and retained two older dread/bc. France did not join the Super BB race at all, and kept a large fleet of 6 BCs(between 38k-42k tons), mixed between the Dunkerque layout and more standard ABXY dual turret ones. US is in a very interesting spot. It retained four old dreads with rather standard ABXY, 12 or 10 guns layout, it also maintained a whooping 9 16.5k ton treaty pocket BBs of two classes. It then built a pair of 30 knot, 62k ton super BB with 17in guns in the late 30s. By now in the early 40s it is also building smaller, 36k ton BC that can make 32 knots, armed with 9 16in guns in ABX configuration and only 8in of belt armor. Lastly japan just completed two 67k Super BB with 20in gun, 17in belt, and 26 knots of speed and is now building 40k ton BC. As I play with varied tech, CV tech picked up fairly late, and at this point most power are sitting at 3-4 CVL with 1-2 small 20k ton CVs, but right now CV construction is also picking up. All in all I think this Mod does make for some very interesting late game to fight against, without, imho being too ridiculous. Although not sure if Intended, I am a fan of the fact that after 1-2 super BBs all power that built them turned back to more reasonably sized 40k ton ships, one can imagine the economic pressure that must have been for the country in question. (Japan just lost a war against me, but only barely. Due two building the two massive 20in armed BBs, they essentially were not producing anything else during the war, and the war ended two months before first of those two monster entered service xD)

Bear in mind they will deviate from the design file in game given tech/yard size. I've seen Yamato from 65-67.5k in Size, with belt between 15-17in.
