Historically, location is a major factor in operations by inferior navies, allowing easy retreat and, in later years, better air cover/limited exposure to air attack. This wasn't too much of a factor in RTW1, with location giving only having a small advantage in saving crippled ships and in mine placement, but with air operations in RTW2 it becomes critical--small operations right next to hostile airbases far from allied airbases are near-suicidal.

Seconding this. I do think it might give the player an even bigger advantage over the AI, though - the Royal Navy is still perfectly happy to sail all the way into my German Lake that used to be called the Baltic Sea. Maybe something could be added into the AI's 'accept or decline battle' algorithm to take into account distance of battle-location from friendly & hostile airbases.

There is already a map. Could you explain what you would like more?

Nice!
Edit, lol, I thought you added this Fredrik! I thought there wasn't a little red arrow that pointed to precisely where the battle was, but there is. It's already there and extremely useful as the OP has complained about. So I dont know what he's talking about either. Anyway, good feature to have.
