I have experienced several problems since buying the game. Torpedoes seem to miss because the info on the target states it is moving, when clearly it is DIW?. Sometimes torps go 'through' the target.... most annoying!! Log - I cannot get the copy to work yet on this at the top of the page. Also individual ship detail sometimes states different number of hits from the end statistics, i.e. two of my ships scored 24 & 36 hits but the target was hit over 100 times. It would also be nice to be able to look at the enemy stats. I would like to be able to pick both sides in a battle. Just tried the Custom Scenario, clicked on the button again and again but nothing happened. I have d/l'ed the manual but this assumes something happened when clicked I guess. Also the Battle Generator - I picked a force and then got a timed out message, when it started. The screen then showed my force heading for the shore, which they then started 'hugging' and no matter what I tried they are still currently touring the beaches in the Adriatic!!. Must be some babes on the beaches :-) Despite these and a few other points, I love the game!!!!.

Hi
FW has worked on the torpedo issue. We're currently testing an update for SAI and SAI-CE.
Not entirely certain what you mean here. The game is designed so that Fog of War features heavily for both the Player and the AI and will sometimes provide information that is of "questionable" accuracy. However, at the end of every battle (or campaign scenario) the Statistics Screen should be displaying correct and definitive data including all gunnery and torpedo hits. Double clicking on the enemy (or friendly) ships' name should bring up the Ship Status screen that allows you to access that ship's log so you can see exactly what happened without FoW abstractions.
Not possible at this time, I'm afraid.
Posting s screenshot would help if this happens again. The actions created by the Battle Generators should conform to the difficulty level that you have selected in Preferences so you should have the level of control that you wanted.
Custom scenarios are just that, if you create a scenario using the Editor it saves in the Custom Files folder as do custom-built ships created using the DesignShip2 program included with Steam and Iron. If there are no custom scenarios in the Custom Files folder, nothing will happen when you click the tab. The old fourm had a number of custom scenarios available for downloading and of course you may create your own. There are manuals for the Editor and DesignShip2 that shipped with the game and these can be found in the Manuals folder.
Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply Chris. Point 2 - Just had a quick battle. Did manage to bring up the enemy ships by clicking on the stats at the of the end of battle. Prinz Eugen on the main battery info:- it scored 6 hits and the sec scored none, however click on the log entries on the same screen for the ship and I counted 19 main batt hits and 6 sec batt hits. Point 4 - the above was on the Battle generator which was okay. Tried it a couple more times and seems okay at the moment. Point 5 - where is the DesignShip2?. I don't seem to have that. Only 4 buttons / options on the main screen and that isn't one of them. I have all the manuals.

OK, not sure why you're seeing this. Is there any chance that you might be mistaking hits taken with hits inflicted? Again, if you could post one or two screenshots showing this sort of anomalous data presentation, it might help determine if there's a bug, something relating to the way that the end-of-battle data is presented or something else entirely.
Inside the main ...\NWS\Steam and Iron folder look for file DesignShip2.exe
Immediately below that you should see Editor.exe
Thanks.

Actually I have started getting some error messages in the campaign module as well. The most recent one reads: "Access violation at address 00401EE3 in module 'SAICampaign.exe.' Read of address 1325BCE8." This is only the most recent, as there have been some similar messages regarding ship routing and port clearing violations. Next time one occurs I will try to get a screenshot. Otherwise, it's a fantastic game. Thanks, BWW

Screenshots do help identify these issues since sometimes they cannot be reproduced when we try to run a submitted saved game. We do try though and as noted above, a new update is currently being tested.

Point 5 - thanks found these in the main prog. Tried the scenario editor - tried to create a new one, but the manual says 'Create Force'. I can only find 'Add Force' and no sign of any ships!!. - Please help. I used the ship designer and 'built' an Italian cruiser that wasn't included in the game, so that went well. Point 2 - no, I was looking at the main gun data on the left hand side. If it happens again i will try and add a screen shot. Never done that before!.

You are correct, the program option is "Add Force" while the manual reads "Create Force". The program is correct, for this purpose Add and Create serve the same function so you're on the right track. In SAI, ships exist in Divisions, which may be one or more vessels. Before you can add the ships you need to define the division where they will live. Once you have created the Division, you may now add ships to it. Attachment DeletedThe Edit Scenario Dialog Attachment DeletedThe Edit Force Dialog Attachment DeletedAdding a new Division opens the Edit Division Dialog. Once the new division has been added, right clicking on the Division flag will open show the Add Ship option and selecting Add Ship opens the Edit Ship Dialog. You may get the following error messages. Error filling ship tree - Ignore and carry on. Access Violation (usually coupled with a hex code) - Save your work, exit the Editor. Restart and reload your scenario and all should be well. This error may be seen if you try to delete objects that have already been defined. The Editor is pretty powerful and it's easy to make mistakes when starting out (although I still make them). It may be a good plan to rough out your scenario on paper before building it in the Editor so that you have all of the required designs ready. You also need to create the scenario environment and briefing file and these are best done (in my opinion) before adding Forces. Experiment and have fun with it and feel free to share your work with the community. Thanks. Help is here if you need it.

At the risk of hijacking the thread in another direction, here is a shot of the error message I just received: It seems to be a hard crash, as I can't just hit the OK button and get out of it, as I have with the error message I transcribed earlier. BWW

Brianw, this error occurs from time to time but is not generally fatal and usually does not affect game play. Do you have a save from the Turn-5 scenario that you could upload so we can attempt to recreate the error.
Thanks.

Sorry for the delay in answering you, but we've been undergoing housecleaning and whatnot for the last couple of days. I think I went back to the autosave point, and then saved over it when the mission was finished (I was doing really well when it started acting up ). The next time something like that happens, I will not make such a lunkheaded maneuver as that, and keep a copy for you to study. BWW

Thanks Chris, re- my scenario editor problem. I will give it another go when I have more time. Just had to re-install everything to update to the latest versions. One other point, on page 13 - Land Targets: the manual states that these will be targeted as if they were ships (though ships will not fire torpedoes at them) I had to laugh, one of my Destroyers did just that in the Heligoland scenario. Hit it the Island too!!!. Could've done with sinking it, as the coastal battery was knocking nine bells out everything in range at the time. I suppose nuclear warheads update is out of the question. :-)

I don't think that there are any nucs in the planning pipe just yet however ships should not be launching torpedoes at land targets. Thanks for the report, if this happens again can you please post the particulars and maybe a screen shot of the attack?
For custom scenarios whether imported or created, make sure that the World2.LYR and NEuropeShallow.LYR files are copied from the Scenarios folder into the main Steam and Iron directory. Should you wish any Editor help, please feel free to post a new topic.

Hi guys, Whenever I load up the campaign module it says "no layers to arrange" then "Warning! campaign layer 1 not found" and then "Warning!campaign layer 2 not found"
After that it actually works fine except the campaign map is essentially blank although minefields and towns are still there. I have been able to play the campaign at length just getting by with this problem but placing subs and mines would be alot easier if the map worked properly. When a naval battle commences the map is there any everything is fine.
I have redownloaded and reinstalled everything including patches to the letter several times and in 2 computers with the exact same result.
Any ideas?

Do you also see this error when loading a stock scenario?
The updated SAI-CE v1.4 installer should have fixed this as per the red text on the update page. Make sure that two layer files mentioned my post above yours (World2.LYR and NEuropeanShallow.LYR) are present in the ...\Scenarios folder.
Thanks.
