RTW2 mods, currently, require manually overwriting game data after (ideally) taking a backup. Patching requires restoring game data to its original state. Would anyone here find a simple GUI for taking/restoring backups and applying individual mods useful? I suspect an MVP would involve creating a "Mods" (and perhaps a "Backup") directory, and a convention for the file structure of .zip files containing mods posted to this forum. Progressive enhancement could involve - GUI for displaying a readme file included in the mod archive
- GUI for displaying the broad changes that a mod includes (i.e. "Sounds", "Flags", "Ship names", "Custom nation", etc. automatically determined by looking at included files)
- GUI for displaying and downloading mods hosted in a managed GitHub repository
- Backing up save games / supporting "scenario editor"-type mods that can set up individual custom battles
- "Create mod" functionality that runs a diff and extracts changed files compared to a baseline
- Functionality for watching save directories and calling hooks potentially included in mods (i.e. on turn end / on save / on tactical battle start)
- Functionality for playing background music, potentially dynamically based on above hooks
I've dumped a fair number of hours into RTW and sling a bit of code at my day job; curious if any players would be interested in this functionality, and if there's the potential to kickstart the mod community and bake in functionality that will support more audacious mods.

While you wait for the very very small development team to build this new functionality, perhaps consider JSGME for your mod-swapping needs.
