Here's something to give the older ships a bit of love, the 'Ramming bow', these were popular for some navies in the pre-Dread era as some Admirals hadn't quite dropped the idea of using a ship itself as a weapon.
Now while there is a contact mechanic in the game it is a rarity but the ramming bow did have a unforseen benefit, they could act as a bulbous bow and could gain their respective ships a bit of speed.
So for implementation:
B-Hull only. Small increase in cost. A small boost to speed. (Wish the game had speed with decimals...) Hitting an enemy ship would deal slightly more damage.
Let's be honest, the game doesn't stay in the B-era for long and ship contact is very rare, But I like having options for flavour!

By all accounts, ships built with ram bows sank more friendly vessels in accidental collisions than they ever sank enemies in combat. I'll pass. :-)

Just though Germany. Out of my trade protection destroyers I had about 6 destroyers for active duty, similar Germany. Two of these 12 destroyers were sunk by rammming. :-) So fairly rare till you make it early strategy. :-)
