When did you start the game - 1900 or 1920?
1900
What nation were you playing?
USA
Were there any start options that were not the default?
Manual build of legacy fleet
Very large fleet
Describe the issue in detail.
The game starts with the Preferences set the "Flotation Damage Warning" to the third option "Capital Ships"
Regardless if you change it or not (I tried both to change it or leave it the same) once you clicked for the first time the Preferences, the choice reverts to the last option "No flotation damage warnings" and it will persist to this option for ever, doesn't matter how many times you will try to change it. You change it, close the preferences and re-open them and it has gone again to "No flotation damage warnings".
It is quite important bug to my opinion, since ships have the tendency to run amok all over the sea with huge gapping holes on their sides progressively increasing the flooding till they sink.
(Here comes the question, why is not hard-coded a ship with a flooding automatically to reduce speed?)
What were you doing when the bug occurred?
Playing the game?
What did you expect to happen and how was the result you saw different than you expected.
Well... not to lose ships with a small flood that their captains decided to run like speedboats...
Can you describe how to reproduce the bug?
Just load the game and try to change the preferences
What version of the game were you playing (v1.00, v1.01, etc)?
All versions, since 1.0 till the current 1.05b (I have bought the game very early and followed all the versions while playing)
PS
I opened the "Preferences" file with notepad.
The "FloatWarning=" is to 1 (Capital Ships) upon installing the game, reverts to -1 once the Preferences are opened in the game.
With experimentation I understood that for "Cruisers and larger ships" the value is 5 and for "All ships" the value is 1000. Tried to alter the values in the file, saved it but once I restarted the game it again went to -1
