A player in the "hints by players for players" thread asked if there is a way to voluntarily release colonies, which, to my knowledge, there isn't. I therefore propose the following interturn event:
--------------------------------------
Dissidents in $POSESSION are fomenting unrest and demonstrating for independence and the end of colonial rule. The $LEADER asks for the navy's input.
* Never! If $POSESSION is granted independence we will lose critical bases and may not be able to hold our other posessions in $SEAZONE in the event of war! Besides, other colonies might get ideas. (+unrest, +tension, +prestige, colony remains for the time being, situation may escalate if unrest remains high) * $POSESSION is a liability, navally speaking. It risks drawing us into conflicts in $SEAZONE that are irrelevant to our interests and requires manpower and ships to defend that are better used elsewhere. Good riddance! (-unrest, -prestige, -tension, -budget, colony leaves) * It would be inconvenient to lose $POSESSION, but the navy can deal with losing it if other considerations are paramount. (colony may stay or leave, otherwise no effect)
