Defence of a Convoysub.NSC (12.1 KB)Randomizer, sorry but I need your help again, please. I have loaded the subs in. Don't seem to be able to control them and they didn't actually do anything on the quick run through that I did. But the main problem I have is with the Convoy of merchant ships. I gave them a speed of 10kts, but their max seems to be set at 5kts? . Please help. :-)

I can see no submarines present when checking the scenario in the Editor. A key value if you want the submarines to actually launch attacks is the Accuracy setting, from 0 to 100. A high setting increases the probability that a submarine can make an effective attack.
Check the Medium Merchant design to make sure that they can reach 10-knots. In the stock game their speed is five and I have customized that to eight-knots in my SAI installation. Remember that division speed should always be at least one-knot slower that maximum speed of the slowest ship to allow for station keeping therefore if you want a convoy speed of 10-knots, the component ships must have a maximum speed of at least eleven-knots. Failure to provide a stationing reserve results in your formation coming apart when attempting any manoeuvres.
SAI does not particularly like different units with the same name so I would suggest that you rename each merchant in the convoy with a unique name. If creativity fails you, just check one of the Campaign games' *.msn folder as the merchant ship names for the campaigns live there.
You have set the convoy role to Core but have not given it a Lead Division so you might want to reset the role to Independent instead. Either that or give it an independent division to follow. Even an anti-submarine trawler or torpedo gunboat as lead would work provided it can reach the necessary speed.

The subs option was at the top of the editor page, so that's what I used. Is that not right?. I will look into the merchant ships option and do as you suggest. I was trying to recreate a scenario from Barry Carters book Naval Wargames by the same name. It was the first naval wargame I ever played back in the day, where has the time gone 😱 Thanks once again Randomizer for you help, I'll keep you posted.

I found the subs, my error since I had not noticed that the Show Submarines box was unchecked. However the observation regarding the accuracy setting holds and your boats are set to zero. You also have two named UB3, not sure that it matters that much but may introduce an error when the scenario is run.
